Hello, I'm Kara. As the Dean of Students, I coordinate support services for students who are experiencing a variety of challenges and oversee the areas of accessibility resources, student conduct, counseling services, and the CARE Team. I serve as the University's Title IX Coordinator, as well.
I grew up in southwestern Minnesota, graduating from Russell-Tyler High School. I earned a B.A. in English and Communications/Business from Augustana University, an M.S. Counseling and Student Affairs from MSUM, and a Ph.D. in Education from NDSU. I have worked in a variety of areas over the past 25+ years, including residence life, student activities, diversity initiatives, multicultural programs, and Title IX.

I have been at MSUM in this role since 2008. Formerly I have served concurrently as the Title IX Coordinator, from 2011 thru the Summer of 2018. I also served concurrently for one year as the interim Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Prior to MSUM, I worked in the Office of Student Conduct at Ferris State University (MI), where I progressed from Assistant Director to Director. I also worked concurrently as the Assistant Director of the New Student Orientation Program. Previously, I was an adjunct instructor at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College and an instructor for Project: AIMS (Activating Interest in Minority Students). I am currently working on a doctorate degree in Higher Education from the University of North Dakota, studying codes of student conduct within the historical context of the institution. I graduated from Selby Area High School (SD).
