Communication Arts & Literature Education Scholarships

The English Department offers several scholarship awards for academic excellence. Eligible candidates must be majoring in English and maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher in English. Applicants must also have sophomore standing or higher at the time of application. Students can apply for university scholarships through the online scholarship application.

Students complete only one application to be considered for the all scholarships, including the English specific scholarships listed below.

This scholarship is awarded to upperclass students who are majoring in English and demonstrate financial need. The student awarded will be selected based on academic performance, leadership in university activities, or other contributions to the university. 

Financial need is determined through the FAFSA. If you have not completed a FAFSA already, you can do so at studentaid.gov.

No additional requirements are needed. 

This scholarship is awarded to students who are pursuing a degree in English Education. Preference will be give to students with financial need.

Attach two letters of recommendation from MSUM faculty or other university.

Attach a sample of your best writing, totaling no fewer than 5 pages and no more than 7 pages, from 200 or higher level English course at MSUM.

Attach a copy of your current transcript.

This scholarship is awarded to students who are majoring in English, with a preference being given to students who have a strong interest in English Literature and/or Shakespeare or those students who are involved in graduate study opportunities in England.

No additional requirements are needed. 

Eligible candidates must be majoring in English and maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher in English. Applicants must be a junior standing or higher at the time of receiving the scholarship.

Attach two letters of recommendation from MSUM faculty or other university.

Attach a sample of your best writing, totaling no fewer than 5 pages and no more than 7 pages, from 200 or higher level English course at MSUM.

Attach a copy of your current transcript.

This scholarship is awarded to full-time students who are English majors with an emphasis in Literature. Preference will be give to students who are from a rural community and/or grew up on a farm. 

 

No additional requirements are needed. 

This scholarship is awarded to full-time students majoring in a Humanities field. The scholarship award will be half to full tuition for one academic year with the possibility of renewal for up to four years (the scholarship amount will depend on the recipient’s residency status).

Eligibility requires a declared major in a Humanities field and remains so for the duration of the scholarship. MSUM Humanities majors include:

  • English, History, Social Studies with a History Emphasis, Social Studies with an Anthropology Emphasis, Women’s & Gender Studies, Art History, Film Studies, Anthropology

While preference will be given to students pursuing a Humanities based degree, other degrees may be given consideration, provided they align with the spirit of the Tom and Adrienne Bahr strategic objectives for the Humanities.

Students who are eligible for this scholarship will be invited to the Scholarship Interview Day held annually in February on campus.

This scholarship is awarded to students in the English department.
