Communication Arts & Literature Education Scholarships

The English Department offers several scholarship awards for academic excellence. Eligible candidates must be majoring in English and maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher in English. Applicants must also have sophomore standing or higher at the time of application. Students can apply for university scholarships through the online scholarship application.

Application Deadline: February 1

Students complete only one application to be considered for the all scholarships, including the English specific scholarships listed below.

Junior or senior majoring in English. Criteria for the scholarship shall include academic performance, leadership in University activities and/or other contributions to the university, and financial need.

Financial need is determined through the FAFSA. If you have not completed a FAFSA already, you can do so at www.fafsa.gov.  FAFSA results must be received by the application deadline date.

Attach two letters of recommendation from MSUM faculty or other university.

Attach a sample of your best writing, totaling no fewer than 5 pages and no more than 7 pages, from 200 or higher level English course at MSUM.

Attach a copy of your current transcript.

Candidates who are junior or above who are majoring in English, and maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher in English are eligible to apply. The Connie Oxton English Memorial scholarship is designated for students pursuing a degree in Secondary English Education. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

This scholarship is intended to assist MSUM English students to continue graduate studies in England. Preferred qualifications include an interest in English literature, with an emphasis on Shakespeare.

This endowment fund provides scholarships to English majors with an emphasis in Literature who are in good academic standing. Preference is given to students from rural communities, and preferably to those from a farming family.
