Educational Leadership Courses & Curriculum

The Educational Leadership program is offered entirely online. The faculty are committed to delivering personalized advising and collaborative experiences while developing your confidence in technology as an essential learning tool. Our goal is to provide you with professional opportunities at area schools and school districts with practicing educational administrators.

MSUM’s Master of Science in Educational Leadership degree will prepare you for mid-management administrative positions, staff administrative positions and upper-echelon administrative positions. Our highly individualized, competency-based program will prepare you for administrator licensure in Minnesota or North Dakota as a Director of Community Education, Director of Special Education, K-12 Principal and Superintendent.

If your career goals are broader, you can also choose from three additional emphases: K-12 Administration, Teacher Leadership, and Student Affairs and Higher Education.

The Specialist in Educational Leadership requires that you have a master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction or a related education field before entering the program. In the specialist program, you will conduct a needs assessment of your current competence in the Minnesota Administrative Competencies or the ELLC competencies/standards to determine a profile of your current knowledge, skill, and dispositions. From this needs assessment, a personalized Plan of Study is developed to fit your needs and goals.

MSUM’s Educational Leadership program is approved by the Minnesota Board of School Administrators (BOSA). Students successfully completing specific state required programs of study may gain school administrative licensure in Minnesota or North Dakota administrative credentials.
