Masters in Counseling (MS)
The Counseling masters program at MSU Moorhead emphasizes the integration of counseling and developmental theories with interpersonal skill development. It has a generalist orientation, but can be individualized to meet your educational and professional goals. The program provides extensive practical opportunities through practicum and internship experiences, as well as relevant coursework. It can be completed full time (maintaining 6-9 credits per semester) in two years, or part-time students have up to five years to complete the program.
The Counseling curriculum is designed to develop your core helping skills and engage in concentrated study in one of three degree emphases: Addiction Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling & School Counseling, the last two of which have specialized accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
If you’re pursuing a school counseling emphasis, you may be eligible for up to $24,000 in scholarship through the Infuse Mental Health Project. This wide-reaching grant addresses a critical shortage of school-based mental health service providers, including school counselors.
Since 1965, the Counseling program at MSUM has been educating and preparing high-quality counselors, educators and student affairs professionals through its programs and emphases, accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
This graduate program is unique in its flexibility and individual attention to graduate students. Some of the strengths of the program include: small class sizes, frequent interaction between faculty, staff and students, and additional faculty support provided during practicum and internship semesters.
All of the courses in the Counseling program are offered after 4:30 p.m. and many are offered as a combination of online and face-to-face classroom learning to accommodate working, part-time and full-time student needs.
A Smart Investment
The support I’ve received from faculty is amazing. The flexibility they offer and their willingness to help has attributed to my success.
