Anna Sigrídur Arnar is a Professor of Art History in the School of Visual Arts as well as a Graduate Faculty Member and Affiliated Faculty in Women’s and Gender Studies Program at MSUM. She teaches upper level courses in 19th- and 20th-Century Art, Women and Art, Contemporary Art, Design, and Theory (a senior capstone seminar), as well as special topics courses “The Book: History, Culture, and Art”, and “Modernism/Postmodernism: Narratives of the 20th Century.” In 2011 she published The Book as Instrument. Stéphane Mallarmé, The Artist’s Book, and the Transformation of Print Culture with the University of Chicago Press and was awarded the Robert Motherwell Book Award for outstanding publication in the history and criticism of modernism from the Dedalus Foundation in New York. Her current project is called “Social Spaces of the Book” analyzing artists’ books and sculptural bookworks at perennial exhibitions of contemporary art.

Laurie Blunsom received her Ph.D. in musicology at Brandeis University and also holds an MFA in musicology and women's studies from Brandeis and a master's degree from the New England Conservatory. Her principal interest is in the participation of women in music in the United States during the 19th and 20th centuries. She has presented several papers on women composers in 19th-century America at conferences such as the Society for American and Music, Feminist Theory and Music and the Women's History Network.

Karen Branden grew up poor in Barnesville, Minnesota. She attended Moorhead State University (now MSUM) and received her degree in Sociology with a minor in Women Studies. She credits MSU with giving her the opportunity to have a great life and teaching her how to use her strong voice. She loves MSUM and is a proud Dragon. She has been a Professor of Sociology for over 20 years and absolutely loves teaching because of the students. She completed her Master’s in Sociology at North Dakota State University. She received her Ph.D. from South Dakota State University. She has taught at schools around the world including Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Kampala, Uganda. Karen has been involved with diversity and social justice her entire career. She has taught and worked with a number of groups on systemic changes to create equity. She was a consultant for the World Food Program while living in Uganda, Africa. Her work at that time was on refugee camps and livelihood. She completed her Ph.D. working with the White Earth Indian Reservation on Wild Rice. She teaches a number of course but consistently offers Introduction to Sociology, The Sociology of Sexuality, Dominant/Subordinate Group Relations and Society and the Environment. She grew up with white privilege yet found her way to her Metis/Ojibwe heritage where she learned her names and her clan.

Rebecca Gardner earned her PhD from the University of North Dakota. She teaches rhetoric and other Communication courses. Her areas of interest include rhetoric of popular culture, American Indians' rhetorical sovereignty, and rhetorics of resistance. She is especially interested in how people use symbols to create, maintain, challenge, deny and share power with other people. Current research interests include the “Fargo Project,” in which diverse community groups collaboratively designed a public recreation area.

Annette Kleinkauf Morrow, Ph.D. specializes in Ancient and Medieval European History. Her research interests include Ancient Rome, the Medieval World, Church History, and Gender History. She grew up in Texas and received her BA in History from Texas Tech University. She earned her MA and Ph.D. from University of Arkansas. Dr. Morrow teaches in the History Program, in the Women's and Gender Studies Program, and in the Honors Program. Sherry Lee Short received her Master of Fine Arts with Distinction from the University of Georgia in 1988. She teaches all levels of drawing and illustration and coordinates the department’s three distinctive certificates in illustration—Scientific Illustration, Sequential Art, and Book Illustration. Her teaching philosophy has an interdisciplinary focus and encourages students to develop a vision for the role of their artworks in a social context. She has held national and international artist residencies in remote wilderness areas, including the Porcupine Wilderness (Michigan, 2015), Isle Royale National Park (Michigan, 2018), Theano Point (Ontario, Canada, 2019). Short received the MinnState Outstanding Educator Award in 2019 and MSUM’s Dille Outstanding Lecturer Award in 2020.
