American Council for Construction Education (ACCE)

Minnesota State University Moorhead’s degree in Construction Management in the Department of Professional Management is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE).

The mission of the Construction management program is three fold.

  • To maintain a nationally accredited construction management program, which will produce graduates who will have the technical, managerial and general knowledge necessary to enter and advance professionally in the construction industry.
  • Provide an environment that encourages students and faculty to engage in professional development, critical thinking and creative endeavors.
  • Promote continuous improvement of teaching, learning and program curriculum.

Goal # 1 Implement a Quality Improvement Plan for the CM Program.

  1. Evaluate CM Program Student Learning Outcomes.
  2. Evaluate Course Learning Outcomes for each CM Course.
  3. Evaluate ACCE Student Learning Outcome (SLO’s).
  4. Maintain ACCE Accreditation.

Goal # 4 Develop activities that lead to greater construction industry interaction with CM students.

The American Council of Construction Education (ACCE) is the primary accreditation body for CM programs and is a leading global advocate of quality construction education which establishes standards and criteria for excellence related to four-year baccalaureate degree programs in construction management. ACCE has established twenty Student Learning Outcomes (SLO’s) that each accredited Construction Management program must continuously assess and report the results. All twenty ACCE Student Learning Outcomes are listed below. The MSUM CM program assessment report, which is posted on this website, summarizes the results of the most recent assessment cycle.

Upon graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree Program, ACCE requires that all graduates shall be able to:

  1. Create written communications appropriate to the construction discipline.
  2. Create oral presentations appropriate to the construction discipline.
  3. Create a construction project safety plan.
  4. Create construction project cost estimates.
  5. Create construction project schedules.
  6. Analyze professional decisions based on ethical principles.
  7. Analyze methods, materials, and equipment used to construct projects.
  8. Apply electronic-based technology to manage the construction process.
  9. Apply basic surveying techniques for construction layout and control.
  10. Understand different methods of project delivery and the roles and responsibilities of all constituencies involved in the design and construction process.
  11. Understand construction accounting and cost control.
  12. Understand construction quality assurance and control.
  13. Understand construction project control processes.
  14. Understand the legal implications of contract, common, and regulatory law to manage a construction project.
  15. Understand the basic principles of sustainable construction.
  16. Understand the basic principles of structural behavior.
  17. Understand the basic principles of HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems.
