Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with Healthcare Admission & Application Requirements

Ed.D. with Healthcare cohort coursework begins in the Fall Semester. Applications are initially recorded for Fall Semester admission. Applicants that are recommended for admission will receive an offer letter. The offer letter will give options of starting elective coursework in the preceding spring or summer. The deadlines listed below are to insure that there is enough time for registration. We strongly encourage Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) to apply to our doctoral program.

Applications will be reviewed as they are completed, so early application is highly encouraged. Any applications received after the cohort is full will be retained for wait list purposes only.

  • Spring Early Elective Admission December 1 for registration
  • Summer Early Elective Admission: March 1 for registration
  • Fall Regular Cohort Admission: April 1

  1. Online graduate application

Submit the Graduate Online Application - This is only the first step in the application process. If you are a graduate student at MSUM, please contact the Graduate Studies office.

  1. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended

Contact ALL the colleges and universities you have attended and have your transcripts sent to:

You do not need to order transcripts from MSUM or other MnSCU institutions. See Transcript Policy for more details.

Note: Upon completion of the application form in step one, you will receive an email in 1-2 business days giving instructions for the remaining steps and completing the program application in Part 2. Please note that the steps below cannot be completed until you receive that email. If you do not receive the email with Self Service Center instructions, please contact the Graduate Studies Office.

  1. $35 Non-Refundable application fee for all graduate applications

After you complete the Graduate Online Application:

  • Log in to eServices with your StarID.
  • Click on Bills and Payment, and you will be able to pay the application fee using a credit or debit card.

Part 2: Graduate Program Application

  1. Master's degree from regionally accredited institution in education, student affairs, corporate learning and development, non-profit organizational leadership, higher education or a related field (e.g., physical therapy, nursing, healthcare leadership/management, economics, education, counseling, student affairs, psychology).

This requirement will be verified by the Graduate Studies Office and the department upon receipt of all transcripts.

  1. Cumulative graduate GPA of 3.5 or higher. If your GPA is lower than 3.5 you can still apply.

  1. Resume or curriculum vitae

Resume or curriculum vitae reflecting a minimum of three (3) years of professional employment and accomplishments within education or a related field and contact information for three professional references.

  • Log in to the Self Service Center site (allow 24 hours after application submission before logging in).
  • Select the “Applications” tab, where you will see your submitted Ed.D. with Healthcare application.
  • Select “Summary” to see a list of all program requirements and corresponding statuses.
  • Upload document by selecting the “Upload” link under the respective “Action” column.
  1. Scholarly Writing Sample

You have three options: 1) Upload a paper submitted as part of your master's degree course requirements (from the last 2 semesters of the program and about 10 pages long), 2) upload the link to the electronic version of your thesis (paste the URL on a Word document), or 3) upload a PDF version of your portfolio or thesis.

  1. Personal Essay

Prepare a 500-750 word essay on what courageous leadership means to you. Do not use references or citations. Please put your name on all pages.

  • Select “Summary” to see a list of all program requirements and corresponding statuses.

  1. Letter of intent

Letter of intent, including motivation for doctoral level studies, career goals or transitions and professional development goals. The Letter of Intent, which should be approximately 250-500 words, is designed to help learners frame their intended doctoral journey in a reflective and purposeful manner.

  1. Interview

Finalists will be invited to a virtual interview with Ed.D. with Healthcare program faculty.
