MSUM’s School of Art’s Art-A-Fair is an annual high school art exhibition, workshop day and awards ceremony. More than 300 students and teachers from high schools in three states attend hands-on workshops by Visual art, Media Art and Music faculty, advanced students, regional arts organizations, and local artists.

The tri-state annual exhibition features over 250 pieces of regional art and awards over $1,000 in cash prizes to student artists. Every year we feature a collaborative public art project in the Art Annex. This year’s project will be 3 large-scale pixelated post-it-note murals.

MSUM’s School of Art’s Art-A-Fair is an annual high school art exhibition and workshop day. More than 300 students and teachers from high schools in three states attend hands-on workshops by Visual art, Media Art and Music faculty, advanced students, regional arts organizations, and local artists. Students select from among 26 hands-on workshop topics, including digital design, beginning wheel throwing, caricature art, sculpture, screen printing, advanced painting, body art, comics and illustration, art therapy, media art, music sessions, creative career possibilities and more!

  • 8:30-9:15 a.m. Register – Gaede Entrance
    Make school camp in the Hanson Theatre
  • 9:00-9:30 a.m. Preview gallery exhibit w/teacher.
    Check your session schedule from University Tickets on your phone. Locate all of your classrooms for the day.
  • 9:45-10:50 a.m. Session I
  • 11:00-11:45 a.m. Lunch – Comstock Memorial Union Ballroom
  • 12:00-12:20 p.m. Awards Ceremony – Center for the Arts Hansen Theatre
  • 12:30-1:20 p.m. Session II
  • 1:30-2:20 p.m. Session III
  • 1:30-4 p.m. Exhibition ends.
    Artwork available for pick up. Artwork can also be picked up Saturday Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

A panel of professors will jury the exhibition sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Fargo and award over $1,000 in prize money in eight media categories:

  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • 2D Mixed Media
  • Printmaking
  • Functional Pottery & Crafts
  • Sculpture
  • Photography
  • Media Arts

A regional art educator will be awarded the Legacy Flame award for their impact on arts education in the region.

The event also features vendors and professional development workshops for teachers.
