Freshman Automatic Scholarships
You’ve worked hard and we want to reward you by offering larger scholarships. We offer automatic scholarships up to $14,000 awarded annually over four years, giving you more ways to pay for college. And it’s simple to qualify. Just apply to MSUM and be admitted!
- Receive your scholarship based on either your GPA or your ACT composite score.
And since college success looks different for every student, you can automatically renew your scholarship with a 3.5 GPA or a 3.0 GPA and participate in student life activities. Because we know getting involved on campus will help you reach your goal of graduating.
Apply early to be considered for one of these freshman automatic scholarships as funds are awarded until fully committed.

Newly admitted freshmen who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens are awarded the highest scholarship amount based on the criteria at the time of admission. Scholarship information and renewal criteria will be sent out by letter within two weeks of admittance.
Competitive Freshman Scholarships
MSUM's competitive scholarships are based on talent, academic program, diversity or other award criteria. To be considered for 300 scholarship opportunities, complete the Scholarship Application between October 1 and February 1. Recipients are selected after February 1 for the following academic year. Here are a few examples of competitive scholarships awarded annually:
Freshman student from the Lake Park, Minn. area who has financial need determined by filling out the FAFSA.
Scholarship is made possible through donations made to the MSU Moorhead Foundation by alumni and friends of the University. This is a one year competitive scholarship and award is based solely on the application materials received with the application. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Financial need is determined by the FAFSA. If you have not completed a FAFSA already, you can do so at www.fafsa.gov. FAFSA results must be received before the scholarship application deadline date.
No additional requirements needed
This scholarship is for freshmen students from Fertile, Minn. If no freshman applies, the scholarship is available to upper class students from Fertile, or to an upper class education major.
Available to students pursuing their first MSUM undergraduate degree. Applicants must be full time students (12 or more MSUM credits) each semester at MSUM. No GPA requirement - only that the student is in good standing according to University policies.

This scholarship is designated for an older than average female, preferably a Minnesota resident, who shows academic promise.
Available to students pursuing their first MSUM undergraduate degree. Applicants must be full time students (12 or more MSUM credits) each semester at MSUM. No GPA requirement - only that the student is in good standing according to University policies.

This scholarship is designated to assist entering freshman students showing academic promise, who live in Moorhead or the surrounding area.
