Graduate Admissions Testing

Graduate school applicants may be required to submit valid test scores to be considered for admission, depending on the program. International graduate student applicants are required to submit TOEFL/IELTS test scores.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

The following graduate programs at Minnesota State University Moorhead require scores on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) prior to reviewing applications for admission:

  • Master of Business Administration: Preferred minimum score of 500; only official scores are accepted; no more than five years old. You may be able to waive the GMAT requirement; see the list for GMAT Waiver and substitution of GRE requirements.  

Test takers should be aware of the country specific scheduling requirements for the GMAT exam. Students may register for the GMAT exam online, by phone, by mail, or by fax. Information on registering for the test and the location of testing centers can be viewed online at mba.com. Available time slots change continuously based on capacity and ongoing registration.

Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

The following graduate programs at Minnesota State University Moorhead require scores on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) prior to reviewing applications for admission:

  • Master of Science in School Psychology: Verbal and quantitative portions combined score of 300 is recommended; only official scores are accepted; no more than five years old.
  • Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology: Only official scores are accepted; no more than five years old.

The computerized GRE General Test is available at the following testing site. The fee for the test is $195.00 More information on how to pay and scheduling can be found online at gre.org. The Paseka School of Business prefers a minimum GMAT score of 500, but applications are considered holistically for scores between 450 and 500. Only official scores can be accepted, and scores must be no more than 5 years old.

Waiver Consideration

Waivers are considered on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed. The GMAT Waiver Request Form should be completed by any applicant who meets all components of one (or more) of the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Previously awarded graduate degree from an accredited institutions;
  2. Professional certifications, including CPA, CFA, and CMA;
  3. Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline from an AACSB, MABA, or EQUIS accredited institution with a cumulative GPA greater than 3.5;
  4. Completing 9 credits of core MBA courses at MSUM as a non-admitted student with a GPA > 3.65;
  5. Completion of the 6 courses in the 18 Online program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

GRE Substitution

Beginning with admissions for Spring 2019, applicants may alternatively submit GRE scores. The 130–170 GRE Score Scale will be converted to a predicted GMAT score using the converter available on Educational Testing Service (ETS) website.
