Pre-Health Careers & Outcomes

Pre-health programs can take you into one of the top careers in today’s job market. Healthcare continues to be one of the largest and continually growing industries. U.S. News & World Report Money lists healthcare-related careers as 20 of the top 25 spots on its list of “The 25 Best Jobs of 2018.” The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects the healthcare and social assistance sector will add 5 million jobs before 2020, as demand to address the needs of our aging population continues to grow more than any other industry.

There are dozens of healthcare careers to choose from, so it’s important to explore which path may be right for you. We encourage you to shadow someone in the profession you’re interested in. For example, if you think you’d like to be a veterinarian, you can ask to shadow a veterinarian near you, following them around to see what they do on a day-to-day basis.

If you’re not ready to shadow in a specific profession and want to do further research, check out the links to common healthcare careers below, or visit explorehealthcareers.org.
