English & Mass Communications Scholarships

MSUM offers a variety of English and Mass Communications program scholarships for current and incoming students. Scholarships are listed below. Students can apply for scholarships through the online scholarship application October 1-February 1.

This scholarship is awarded to students who are majoring in Communication Studies. Students awarded may be incoming freshman, current MSUM students, or incoming transfers. This scholarship is awarded to students who have not yet completed two (2) semesters as a Communication Studies major. 

No additional requirements are needed. 

 

This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshman students from Moorhead High School who are involved in mass communications.

No additional requirements are needed.

 

This scholarship is awarded to sophomore or higher students who are majoring in Mass Communications and demonstrate scholastic excellence. Preference is given to junior and senior students and students with financial need. 

Financial need is determined through the FAFSA. If you have not completed a FAFSA already, you can do so at studentaid.gov. 

No additional requirements are needed. 

This scholarship is awarded to junior or senior students who are majoring in Print Journalism. 

No additional requirements are needed. 

The purpose of the Marcil Scholarship is to recruit and retain students to MSU Moorhead who are interested in a career in the journalism/media industry. The scholarship will be awarded in equal amounts in the fall and spring semesters.

Qualifications

  • Students must be majors in the School of Communication and Journalism, Paseka School of Business, or Department of Computer Science and Information Systems who are interested in a career in the media industry.
  • Current students, New Entering First-Year students and transfer students are eligible to apply.
  • The scholarship is renewable for up to four years. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to renew the scholarship and continue to be a major in one of the departments listed above.

Do not apply if you currently have a Marcil scholarship.

Returning students, attach a copy of your current transcript or DARS (both available on eServices for MSUM students). New incoming students, no need to attached transcripts.

Attach a 250-300 word statement about your interest in a career in the Media industry and describe how you will pursue that interest while attending MSUM.

Applicants must declare a major in Advertising, Broadcast Journalism, Integrated Ad & PR, Multimedia Journalism, Photojournalism or Public Relations and must demonstrate a strong academic performance.

Returning students, attach a copy of your current transcript or DARS (both available on eServices for MSUM students).

New incoming students, no additional information is needed.

 

This scholarship is awarded to students who are admitted to the School of Communication & Journalism with a declared major in Advertising, Broadcast Journalism, Integrated Ad & PR, Multimedia Journalism, Photojournalism, or Public Relations. Students must demonstrate a strong academic performance.

No additional requirements are needed.

 

This scholarship is awarded to Journalism students. Students awarded will be an upperclass Mass Communications student with a specific interest in Journalism or an incoming freshman with an interest in Journalism. 

No additional requirements are needed. 

This scholarship is awarded to full-time students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference will be given to a student majoring in Broadcast Journalism and to incoming freshmen or transfer students.

If no Broadcast Journalism majors are eligible, the recipient may be a student who is pursuing any other major offered by the School of Communication & Journalism.
