Computational Mathematics Scholarships

MSUM offers a variety of Computational Mathematics scholarships for current and incoming students. Scholarships are listed below. Students can apply for university scholarships online October 1-February 1.

This Scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who is majoring in Mathematics. Preference will be given to a student with a minor in Music or a member of a MSUM music ensemble. 

No additional requirements are needed.

This Scholarship is awarded to incoming transfer students who register as a Mathematics major upon transfer. Students must have completed courses equivalent to Calculus I and II at MSUM, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in Mathematics courses applying to a Mathematics major, and have completed at least 24 semester hours of credits with an average GPA of 3.0 or higher. 

No additional requirements are needed.

The Freshman Mathematics Scholarship award is given to first-year mathematics majors (including math education, actuarial science, or math with a computational emphasis).  The scholarship is renewable for a second year if a minimum GPA of 3.0 is maintained in mathematics courses along with continued progress toward a mathematics degree.

Please provide a list of mathematics related honors you have received or mathematical activities in which you have participated.

Attach a signed letter of recommendation from one of your high school mathematics teachers.

James Wallen Scholarship in Mathematics is awarded to a junior mathematics major to support their senior year of study based on their scholarly achievement in their mathematics coursework. Requirements: Recipients must be a full time student during academic year.

No additional requirements needed

The Katherine Leonard Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student who is majoring in mathematics. Requirements: Recipients must be a full time student during the preview academic year.

This Scholarship is awarded to full-time students who are majoring or minoring in Mathematics Education for the purpose of pursuing a career as a math teacher OR who are majoring in Mathematics.

No additional requirements are needed.

This Scholarship is awarded to full-time students who are pursing a degree in Mathematics with an emphasis in Actuarial Science. 

No additional requirements are needed.

The Mathematics Transfer Student Scholarship is awarded to an incoming transfer student who is pursuing a mathematics major (renewable for a second year if a minimum GPA of 3.0 is maintained in mathematics courses along with continued progress toward a mathematics degree).

Requirements: Must have a declared Mathematics Major (this includes Math Education and Actuarial Science) and must have a least one year of additional coursework remaining.

Attach a signed letter of recommendation from one of your college level mathematics instructors.

Attach a list of mathematics related honors you have received or mathematical activities in which you have participated.

This Scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who is majoring in Mathematics and has a GPA of 3.25 or higher. Preference will be given to students who are juniors or seniors, who have an emphasis on computational math, or who are planning to attend graduate school.

This Scholarship is awarded to upperclass students majoring in Mathematics, who have a high GPA in their Math coursework. 

No additional requirements are needed. 

The Tim and Kathy Peil Mathematics Scholarship is awarded to math majors who have demonstrated a record of involvement in mathematical service and professional development activities. Requirements: Minimum GPA and activity requirements are based on the applicant’s standing in the major.

Please submit a document describing your involvement in the MSUM Mathematics Department such as: math club, service to the department, math tutoring, math contests, academic conference or meetings, presentations, or journal articles.
