Actuarial Science Scholarships

MSUM offers a variety of Mathematics: Actuarial Science scholarships for current and incoming students. Scholarships are listed below. Students can apply for university scholarships through the online scholarship application October 1-February 1.

This scholarship is awarded to full-time students who are declared Mathematics majors. Preference will be given to a student with a high math GPA (3.2 or higher) and to a student who plans to attend graduate school for mathematics or plans to pursue a career in actuarial science. 

 

No additional requirements are needed.

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who is majoring in Mathematics. Preference will be given to a student with a minor in Music or a member of a MSUM music ensemble. 

No additional requirements are needed.

This scholarship is awarded to incoming transfer students who register as a Mathematics major upon transfer. Students must have completed courses equivalent to Calculus I and II at MSUM, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher in Mathematics courses applying to a Mathematics major, and have completed at least 24 semester hours of credits with an average GPA of 3.0 or higher. 

No additional requirements are needed.

This scholarship is awarded to students who are first-year Mathematics majors (including Math Education, Actuarial Science, or Math with a Computational Emphasis).  The scholarship is renewable for a second year if a minimum GPA of 3.0 is maintained in mathematics courses along with continued progress toward a mathematics degree.

Please provide a list of mathematics related honors you have received or mathematical activities in which you have participated.

Attach a signed letter of recommendation from one of your high school mathematics teachers.

This scholarship is awarded to students who are entering their senior year and majoring in Mathematics.

No additional requirements are needed.

This scholarship is awarded to students in Mathematics.

No additional requirements are needed.

This scholarship is awarded to full-time students who are majoring or minoring in Mathematics Education for the purpose of pursuing a career as a math teacher OR who are majoring in Mathematics.

No additional requirements are needed.

This scholarship is awarded to full-time students who are pursing a degree in Mathematics with an emphasis in Actuarial Science. 

No additional requirements are needed.

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming transfer student who is pursuing a Mathematics major. This scholarship is renewable for a second year if a minimum GPA of 3.0 is maintained in mathematics courses along with continued progress toward a mathematics degree. Students must have a least one year of additional coursework remaining.

Attach a signed letter of recommendation from one of your college level mathematics instructors.

Attach a list of mathematics related honors you have received or mathematical activities in which you have participated.

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who is majoring in Mathematics and has a GPA of 3.25 or higher. Preference will be given to students who are juniors or seniors, who have an emphasis on computational math, or who are planning to attend graduate school.

This scholarship is awarded to upperclass students majoring in Mathematics, who have a high GPA in their math coursework.

This scholarship is awarded to full-time students who are majoring in Math Education and who have passed all Basic Skills MTLE Tests. Students must be formally admitted to the MSUM Teaching Program. Preference will be given to students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and those who have experience tutoring in a MSUM Math Department tutor lab. 

Attach a personal statement explaining why you want to become a classroom math teacher. 

This scholarship is awarded to Math majors who have demonstrated a record of involvement in mathematical service and professional development activities.

Freshman Standing:

 - Must have completed at least 3 credits in the required course work for Mathematics major and have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in these courses. Credits must have been earned at MSUM.

 - Must have satisfied at least one of the following in the current academic year: Participated in Math Club; Provided a service to the Mathematics Department; Participated in a mathematics contest.

Sophomore Standing:

 - Must have completed at least 12 credits in the required course work for Mathematics major and have a minimum GPA of 3.25 in these courses. At least 6 of the 12 credits must have been earned at MSUM.

 - Must have satisfied at least two of the following in the current academic year: Participated in Math Club; Provided a service to the Mathematics Department; Participated in a mathematics contest; Attended an academic conference or professional meeting in mathematics or mathematics education; Presented a talk at a student academic conference, an academic conference, or professional meeting.

Junior Standing:

 -  Must have completed at least 21 credits in the required course work for Mathematics major and have a minimum GPA of 3.00 in these courses. At least 9 of the 21 credits must have been earned at MSUM.

 - Must have satisfied at least three of the following in the current academic year: Participated in Math Club; Provided a service to the Mathematics Department; Participated in a mathematics contest; Attended an academic conference or professional meeting in mathematics or mathematics education; Presented a talk at a student academic conference, an academic conference, or professional meeting; Had a mathematics or mathematics education paper accepted for publication in an academic or professional journal.

Senior Standing:

 -  Must have completed at least 30 credits in the required course work for Mathematics major and have a minimum GPA of 3.00 in these courses. At least 15 of the 30 credits must have been earned at MSUM.

 - Must have completed at least one 400 level course in the Mathematics major (Intermediate Analysis 1 and Mathematics in the Secondary School do not fulfill this requirement).

- Must have satisfied at least four of the following in the current academic year: Participated in Math Club; Provided a service to the Mathematics Department; Participated in a mathematics contest; Attended an academic conference or professional meeting in mathematics or mathematics education; Presented a talk at a student academic conference, an academic conference, or professional meeting; Had a mathematics or mathematics education paper accepted for publication in an academic or professional journal.

Please submit a document describing your involvement in the MSUM Mathematics Department such as: math club, service to the department, math tutoring, math contests, academic conference or meetings, presentations, or journal articles.
