Dragon Face in a New Place: Brian Johnson

Brian Johnson is the new Payroll Coordinator for the Human Resources department at MSUM. He ensures employees and students get paid and helps with the student employment transition from business services to HR Workday. He previously held the role of OAS Intermediate in Graduate & Extended Learning. 

Q: What unique experiences or skills from your past position are you using in your new one?
A: Being an OAS really helped with student interactions and becoming familiar with all the different programs and departments on campus. I think my strength is being able to balance a lot at once.

Q: Do you have any previous/other connection(s) to MSUM? 
A: I grew up here in Moorhead and my father is an alumnus. 

Q: How do you prefer to start your workday? 
A: A cup of coffee and check my email and Calendar to see what is on the to-do list for the day.  

Q: What’s your go-to productivity trick? Or what energizes you at work? 
A: Wanting to do my best for the person receiving the work, whether it’s someone at state human resousces or another faculty member here. I want my portion of the work to be 100%. 

Q: What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on right now? 
A: The transition of student employment from business services to human resources.  

Q: What energizes you outside of work?
A: My dog, Daisy.  

Q: If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: Seychelles – it is so beautiful. It would be amazing to just sit, read, and only have to worry about my tan.
