Welcome to the Dragon Community: Lauren McCombs

Lauren is a new housing coordinator in Housing and Residence Life. She helps students through housing selection, room renewals, and specific questions related to housing at MSUM. 
 

Q: What’s one thing that has surprised you about MSUM? 
A: How close-knit yet beautiful the campus is. 

Q: What drew you to MSUM? 
A: I have a couple of friends who work here, and they have all had great experiences. I also wanted to know what it was like working in the higher education sphere. 

Q: What unique experiences or skills from your past job do you bring to MSUM? 
A: I was previously an HR specialist for a construction company, and that really was just a catch-all job. So, I learned how to solve problems in many different scenarios, which I think will be very useful for this position. 

Q: How do you prefer to start your workday? 
A: A cup of coffee and biking to work if it’s nice enough out. 

Q: What’s your go-to productivity trick? Or what energizes you at work? 
A: Making lists. 

Q: What’s one thing you’re learning now, and why is it important? 
A: How to run the housing computer program; it holds all information related to housing, so it’s important that I know what I am doing with it. 

Q: What energizes you outside of work? 
A: Being active – I am a coach for the local mountain bike team. 

Q: What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done? 
A: I climbed Devil’s Tower once, and for my husband and my honeymoon, we did a 100-mile hike through the Scottish Highlands. 

Q: What book are you currently reading? 
A: The Shady Hollow mystery series.
