Welcome to the Dragon Community: Sheena Miller
Meet Sheena Miller, the new military-connected career coach on campus, located in the Career Development Center. She has a background in occupational therapy, having worked at the VA in community mental health, suicide prevention, and community engagement programs.
"I'm military connected through my husband, who serves in the North Dakota Army National Guard," she says. "We live in a small town and have one fur child – the boss of the house."
Q: What drew you to Minnesota State Moorhead?
A: When I saw the job posting, it really resonated with me. I find supporting the military-connected population meaningful, and I enjoy helping others build skills and confidence. This role allows me to apply my OT training, especially the holistic, strength-based approach, in a non-clinical setting. I love that Moorhead offers a lot of opportunities while still keeping a small, welcoming community feel.
Q: What does Military-Connected mean to you?
A: Whether you serve or your family or loved ones served, being military-connected means you belong to a unique but diverse community shaped by shared experiences and a sense of connection.
Q: What is something that people may not know about you?
A: My husband and I lived in Colorado for a couple of years and joined a local boxing gym, where we learned how to box. I love the mental and physical challenge, the confidence it builds, and how there's always something new to learn.
Q: How do you like to wind down after a long day?
A: It depends on the day and season. I enjoy spending time with my husband and our dog, whether we're watching Netflix or spending time outdoors, which is very therapeutic for me. I also love curling up with a good book. In cold weather, I'm definitely inside watching comfort shows like Gilmore Girls or the Harry Potter movies.
Q: What goals do you have for 2026?
A: Professionally, I'm excited to grow in this role, learn from others, and continue supporting the students I serve. In my daily life I want to be more mindful, intentional, and to slow down. I want to read more because it brings me joy, and I'd like to be more active again, maybe get back into boxing and yoga.
Q: What would you name your pet dragon and what would their element be?
A: I have two answers:
Hagrid, because I love Harry Potter and Hagrid's comforting, goofy nature.
Carl, because I love human names for pets.
For an element, I'd choose Earth, because it feels grounding and intentional.
Welcome to the Dragon Community, Sheena!
