Hiring Procedures
The hiring process applies to all positions, including fixed-term and temporary positions, but excluding adjuncts, that occur after the budget planning process has concluded for any given fiscal year. Beyond the position approval process, there may be special procedures that apply to filling classified and unclassified positions.
This process applies to hiring to fill all vacant positions, including fixed-term and temporary positions, but excluding adjuncts, that occur after the budget planning process has concluded for any given fiscal year.
- Prior to transferring or filling any positions, each vacancy will be reviewed and consultation is expected to occur between the supervisor, the President’s Cabinet member* who oversees the area where the position reports as well as within the department and the division.
The areas below are authorized to fill vacancies within an established FTE without requesting approval for each vacant position. The expectation is the supervisor will review each vacancy for increased efficiencies by changing work areas, shifts, and/or duties.
- General Fund General Maintenance Worker (GMW) FTE established at 24
- Student Union GMW FTE established at 3.0
- Wellness Center GMW FTE established at 1.0
- Housing & Residential Life GMW FTE established at 10.0 (9 GMWs and 1 GMW Lead)
- General Fund Plant Maintenance Engineer (PME) FTE established at 5.0
- Public Safety sergeant FTE established at 6.0
- Admissions representative FTE established at 7.0
- Housing & Residential Life area director FTE established at 3.0
- Early Education Center pre-school teacher FTE established at 4 positions at .973 FTE each and 1 position at .625 FTE
- If it is determined the position should be considered for hiring, the direct supervisor of the position will complete the Recruitment Authorization Form and provide it to the President’s Cabinet member who oversees the area where the position reports.
- The President’s Cabinet may decide further consultation is necessary in the decision-making process and refer the position to a sub-committee of the University Planning & Budget Committee.
- The sub-committee’s input will be considered by the President’s Cabinet in making the final administrative decision about filling the position. The final decision along with rationale will be communicated to the supervisor as well as within the department and the division.
- If the position is not approved, reconsideration can be requested via a President’s Cabinet member.
