Commercial Music Courses & Curriculum

As the only Commercial Music degree in the Minnesota State system and the Metro College Alliance consortium (Moorhead, Concordia College and NDSU), our program will prepare you for careers in the commercial, jazz and popular music industries as performers and composers/arrangers while also developing skills in the areas of live/recorded sound and music business and law.

Acting and Production: Become a stronger performer through a blend of theatre and Audio Production & Entertainment Management courses. Students taking this emphasis will learn acting, movement, and voice skills to help them pursue a career in performance.

Entertainment Management: Learn more about management, law, social media, and event planning through the entertainment industry lens. This interdisciplinary emphasis prepares students to represent musicians and entertainers or coordinate music events.

Entrepreneurship: Develop a foundation in business through this interdisciplinary emphasis, where you will take courses focused on marketing, business law, accounting, and more. Students will develop the skills needed to start a business and market themselves as professional musicians.

Film Production: Take film courses from our Film Production program, where you'll develop skills in writing, producing, directing, editing, and cinematography while gaining a deeper appreciation for film.

Performance: Focus on improving your musicianship through instrumental/vocal lessons, ensemble participation, and recital performances.

Recording Arts and Post Production: Gain a deeper understanding of the entertainment industry through Audio Production and Entertainment Management courses. You'll work with industry-standard equipment while developing the skills needed to excel as an audio engineer, music producer, or director.
