MS in AI Admission & Application Requirements
The MS in AI will have rolling admissions, meaning applications will be accepted past the priority deadlines. However, it is recommended to apply earlier rather than later, especially for international applicants who may have additional requirements.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) MS Application Dates & Deadlines
- Fall 2027: TBD - April 30, 2027 (priority)
- Spring 2028: TBD - September 30, 2027 (priority)
Steps to Apply
You may begin your application before all documents are ready. GradCAS saves your progress, and you may return any time to continue updating your application.
- Create your account in GradCAS
- Select your preferred term for a MS in AI application.
- Complete the three general application sections.
- Complete the fourth, MSUM section (See Application Requirements below).
- Make sure to request all documents before submitting your application. Once you submit, you can no longer amend or upload additional documents.
- Pay the $50 application fee.
MS in AI Admission Requirements
- A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Prior experience of programming in a programming language commonly taught in introductory computer science (e.g., Python, Java), working with a database, and knowledge of how the Internet works sufficient for troubleshooting client-server connection issues.
- A college-level classes in applied statistics, calculus, and discrete math (also commonly known as discrete structures).
- An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher at the time of application.
MS in AI Application Requirements
- GradCAS application
- A current resume.
- Unofficial transcripts are required from all institutions you list on your application.
- If you attended MSUM or other Minnesota State system institutions, you can retrieve your unofficial transcripts from eServices.
- Upon admission, you must request official transcripts from your degree-conferring institutions and any other transcripts listing possible graduate transfer coursework. Official transcripts can be requested through Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse and sent directly to processing@mnstate.edu.
- MSUM or MN system institution students do not need to request official transcripts. The admission team will do this on your behalf.
International Student Requirements
- An official comprehensive course-by-course transcript evaluation by Educational Credential Evaluator (ECE), World Education Services (WES) or any other NACES accredited evaluation firm, from post-secondary institutions outside the U.S.
- The ECE, WES, or NACES evaluation must certify your international degree is equivalent to a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution.
- For students whose native language is not English an official score is required from one of the following:
- TOEFL (6678 MSUM school code) score of 550 (paper-based) or 78-80 (online)
- IELTS (Minnesota State University Moorhead) overall band score of 6.5
- Duolingo a minimum score of 120 on the Duolingo English test.
On Campus International Students-Visa Sponsorship Requirements
Upon admission to the program, you will receive instructions from the Admissions team on how to submit the documents required for visa sponsorship
- International Graduate Student Agreement form.
- International Graduate Student Sponsor form listing the availability of adequate monetary support for the duration of the graduate program.
- An official bank statement demonstrating sufficient financial support.
- International Graduate Student Transfer form. (if applicable)
- Valid passport copy.
- Dependent passport copies, if applicable.
Note: Students requiring F-1 visa sponsorship must complete all international admission requirements before an I-20 can be issued. Students are also required to maintain approved health insurance coverage while enrolled. Direct questions regarding international admissions to admissions@mnstate.edu.
NOTE: International students will not be granted a visa for the summer term. They may apply and begin the program online in the summer, then request visa sponsorship for the following fall or spring term.
