The faculty and students of School of Media Arts & Design are linked by a common focus on the creation and analysis of media that powerfully affects their chosen audience. Located within a Liberal Arts curriculum, a rigorous education is offered in the areas of film and video production, digital imaging processes, motion graphics, and the critical analysis of visual mediums. The film studies and graphic communications majors in the department are designed to give students the technical skills necessary to adapt to an ever-changing technological landscape.
Degree programs in film production, film studies, and animation offer students courses in directing, producing, HDV and 16mm film production, post-production techniques, moving image aesthetics and criticism. Graphic communications and graphic design majors focus on the creation and production of visual images, with coursework exploring areas of print production and design, web and multimedia development, 3D graphics, brand identity, typography and visual systems. Students pursuing a degree within the School of Media Arts & Design are taught by highly engaged faculty with diverse professional backgrounds.
