The Office of Online Learning is committed to faculty development, educational technology, instructional design, and student success. Our team can provide workshops to all faculty, departments, schools and colleges at MSUM either online or in person on a wide range of course design, program development and academic initiatives.

DragonCentral provides convenient StarID access and the ability to:
- Register, receive calendar invites, event updates, and reminders
- Revisit past events for session resources and recordings
- Keep a personal record of your professional learning events
- Sort and filter sessions by your interests
To find and register for workshops on DragonCentral:
- Go to DragonCentral
- Enter your StarID and password.
- After logging in, click the menu icon in the upper left corner.
- Select Events.
- Open the Categories dropdown menu.
- Select one of more FPLC categories.
- Click an event to get more information.
- RSVP to let us know you’re coming.
- Click Add to iCal/Outlook to add the event to your calendar.
What are badges?
Digital badges are validated indicators of skills or competencies. They typically represent competencies not shown on a transcript, including learning from internships, volunteer work, co-curricular activities, and continuing education. They are sharable – earners can display earned badges on social media, such as LinkedIn, in email signatures, and on digital resumes.
What badges are offered from Online Learning?
Currently, instructors can earn an Essentials of Online badge by completing the self-paced Essentials of Online Badging Course. We also offer badging for our Course Design Intensive Workshop.
Previously, badges were awarded to instructors for completing years 1, 2, and/or 3 of the Student-Centered Cohort (SCC). Additional badging opportunities will be added in the near future on topics such as using Content templates in D2L Brightspace and creating accessible documents. Keep an eye for communications about this opportunities. Email the Office of Online Learning with any questions.
The Network for Educational Development (NED) is a community of support framework established by Minnesota State to facilitate professional development opportunities, provide a repository of development resources, share opportunities for networking and conversations.

Quality Matters (QM) is a nationally recognized, faculty-centered, peer review process designed to certify the quality of online and hybrid courses. The QM process is based on research literature and best practices for online teaching and learning. The guiding principles behind QM promote student-centered design, intended to stimulate student learning and increase student satisfaction with the learning process. To access the resources available to us as a QM subscribing member, you will need to have a MyQM account. For information on obtaining QM certification for one or more of your courses, go to our course development page.

The Online Learning Consortium (OLC) is a community of higher education leaders made up of faculty members, administrators, instructional designers, trainers, and other learning professionals who are dedicated to advancing quality digital teaching and learning experiences. OLC's resources include best-practice publications, quality benchmarking tools, practitioner-based and empirical research, and online workshops & webinars. The OLC Quality Scorecard Suite provides criteria and benchmarking tools to ensure quality online learning practices in the following areas: administration of online programs, blended learning, teaching & instructional practices, and student support.
Professional Development
OLC provides a variety of training opportunities that explore topics important to quality digital teaching and learning. Peruse their online listing of workshops and webinars (upcoming and on-demand).
