Drop 'n Go | Sunday, August 11 | 10 am - 5 pm

Drop 'n Go | Thursday, August 15 | 3 pm - 7 pm

Move-In & Stay | Thursday, August 22 | 9 am - 3 pm

Drop 'n Go will be an option for new and returning residents to move in some or all of their items prior to the official campus move-in day. John Neumaier residents do not need to participate in Drop 'n Go, as they can move in beginning August 1. Students must sign up in order to participate in Drop 'n Go by August 10.

New students should be back on campus and ready for the Welcome Week kick-off at 3 pm on Thursday, August 22. The residence halls will open at 9 am on Move-In Day and our staff will be excited to officially welcome students to campus!

Before You Arrive

• Check out the amenities your assigned residence hall offers, items you may want to bring with you, items we ask that you leave at home, and other helpful information as you prepare for your arrival.
• Register for Drop 'n Go if participating.
• Holmquist Hall does not have elevators. Please plan and pack accordingly.
• We encourage students to bring their own cart if they have one.

When You Arrive on Thursday, August 22

• If you haven't taken and/or picked up your Dragon ID yet, please first go to the Library Help Desk to get your ID before checking in; the Help Desk is located on the north side of the library
• Go to the parking lot closest to your hall; if you have helpers, have them start unloading your items to the curb/sidewalk while you check in
• Go to your hall's desk to check in (and pick up your key if you did not participate in Drop 'n Go)
• Once items are removed from your vehicle, move it to the designated lots to allow for other residents to unload
• Check in with your RA and pick up your info folder
• Proceed to make your room your new home!

Spring 2023 Move-In Day

All New and Returning Residence Hall students can check in to your room beginning Friday, January 6, 2023. John Neumaier Residents may begin to check in on Sunday, January 1, 2023.

New Residents

• New Residence Hall Residents can check-in between 12-9pm on Friday, January 6, 2023.
• New John Neumaier Apartment Residents can check-in between 4-8pm on Sunday, January 1, 2023.
  • When you arrive, you will need to call the On-Duty RA to get your key (701-261-4928).
• Use your Dragon ID to gain access to your building's exterior door.
  • If you have not taken your Dragon ID photo for your ID, please visit the IT Help Desk, located in the North Lobby entrance of the Library before the term starts.
  • View Card Office hours.
  • Learn all your Dragon ID can do.
• Head to your hall desk to pick up your key; the desk will also check you in so your Dragon ID can continue to work and so that you can receive mail.
• Proceed to your room and make it your new home!

Returning Residents

• Returning residents can come back to their Dragon home beginning at noon on Friday, January 6, 2023.
• Check back in at the hall desk or by scanning the QR code and checking yourself in via myHousing portal.
  • Failure to check back in at your hall desk will turn off your card access - please be sure to do it when you arrive!

Early Arrivals

• If you must arrive before your designated check-in date, you will need to apply for an Early Arrival - Note: there is a $15/night charge.

To be eligible for summer housing, all previous housing charges must be paid in full and your account must be free of any holds. Any MSUM student must be enrolled in at least one summer class or registered for Fall classes to live in summer housing.

West Snarr Hall

Summer housing check-in will begin on Monday, May 17 at the Snarr Desk.

You will receive your keys for summer housing at the Snarr desk, so you can move your belongings and be ready for housing staff to check you out of your current room. Check out of your current room must be completed on Wednesday, May 19, 5pm.

If you are not contracted for Fall 2020, you must check out of your room by Sunday, August 1, 5pm.

If you are enrolled for fall semester AND you have a housing contract for fall, you may stay through the interim housing dates at the summer housing rate. At the beginning of August, you will be notified by Housing when you will move into your fall room assignment.

John Neumaier

Summer housing check-in begins Monday, June 1 at 5pm. If you need summer housing accommodations until you are able to check in to your apartment, you will need to apply to live in South Snarr Hall for the interim. Please refer to the Summer Housing Rates for South Snarr.

John Neumaier summer housing ends on July 31st. If you are not staying with us in the fall, you need to be checked out of your apartment by noon on this day.

• For those Currently Living in John Neumaier: To keep your same apartment for Summer 2020, your Summer contract must be submitted by May 1.
• For those Living in John Neumaier Fall 2021: If you would like to live in a John Neumaier apartment for Summer 2021, your application/contract must be submitted by May 1. If your apartment is not available for Summer 2021, you will be notified the week of May 1st.

Interim Housing Dates | August 2 – August 18

Interim housing is available only for those students who have a fall room assignment. All other students must be checked out by August 1, 5pm.

If you have special circumstances and need to move in early, submit the request by filling out the Early Arrival Form. Please be advised that submitting this form does not guarantee permission to arrive early into the residence halls and apartments. Fall Athletes: your coaches will submit your early arrival for you.

You will only be granted early arrival for employment, Athletics, group organizations or extensive travel circumstances. Your request may need approval from your supervisor, advisor, coach or representative. We will contact them for approval.

Housing & Residential Life will notify you if your request is approved or denied through your campus email address. Information that is not supplied or is incorrect can delay your request.

As the academic year comes to an end the residence halls are preparing to close. Below outlines dates, times, and procedures to help you complete your responsibilities for your move-out process for all MSUM locations. If you have questions, please ask a staff member in your hall or stop by the Housing Office in Ballard 120.

Late Check Out Request

If you are requesting to check out late, please allow up to 48 hours for approval.

• Bathroom Supplies: Shower caddy to carry toiletries, rubber shower flip-flops, hair dryers, shavers, etc.
• Linens: Extra-long twin sheets (XL twin), pillow, blanket, comforter, mattress pad, towels, washcloth, etc. Nelson Upperclass Singles require full-size bedding.
• Clothing: While every room has a wardrobe/dresser and/or hanging space, you may run out of room for every piece of clothing (or pair of shoes) that you own. Think practically about what you will need/wear. If you're planning on going home at Fall or Winter Break, maybe you can trade out summer and winter clothing at that time. Plan ahead and be realistic! You will need to bring clothes hangers.
• Removable Adhesive: Tape, tacks or nails cannot be used on the walls (but are ok on bulletin boards). Removable adhesive (such as Command Strips) may be used for hanging posters and pictures on walls. Please leave any Command Strips up for Maintenance to remove so that any damage to the walls or the paint will not result in damage charges when you move.
• Networking: Wi-Fi is provided in the lounges and individual rooms. You will have access to a printer in your hall, but you may want to bring your own computer if you do not want to use the campus or hall computer labs.
• Power Strips: Power strips are used instead of extension cords. The power strip must be rated for a maximum of 15 amps and 1875 watts and have a built-in circuit breaker.
• Kitchen: While you have a dining contract that allows you to eat at Kise Commons and the retail areas on campus, you may still want to bring a small assortment of dishes and utensils. A dish towel, dish soap and paper towels may also come in handy.
• Laundry Supplies: Laundry basket or bag, high efficiency detergent for top-loading washers, fabric softener, stain fighters, etc. There are laundry facilities in every hall.
• Health Care Items: First aid kit, allergy, headache or stomach medications, adhesive bandages, sunscreen, etc.
• Entertainment: TV, DVD player, video game consoles, etc. TVs must be digital cable ready as we do not have cable convertor boxes.
• Approved Appliances: Small refrigerator under 4 cubic feet, microwave 600-800 watts, fan, coffee pots with auto-shutoff, and/or clothes iron with auto-shutoff. Please see below for a listing of appliances that are not allowed in the halls. If there is an appliance you are interested in bringing but is not featured on either list, please email housing@mnstate.edu for clarification.
• Fan: a box fan or any medium/large fan is ideal for the first weeks of school.
• TV/Cable: digital cable is provided in each room. If you want to utilize this, please bring a co-axial cable and a digital TV (we do not provide cable boxes for non-digital TVs - please ensure your TV is listed as "cable-ready").

• Pets: only fish in a 10-gallon or less aquarium are permitted.
• Non-CFL or Heat-Generating lights: halogen lamps, non-UL black lights, non-UL neon lights, incandescent bulbs, paper lamps/lanterns with bulbs, torchiere floor lamps or light kits are not allowed.
• Weapons: Firearms, weapons, ammunition or facsimiles.
• Fireworks and Explosives
• Candles or Incense: Open flames are prohibited in the residence halls. Even candles that have never been used are not allowed. Battery-operated (flameless) candles are a great alternative. This also includes plug-in air fresheners, wax warmers, potpourri warmers, Scentsy or other heated fragrance devices.
• Extension Cords or Multi-Plug Converters: Use a power strip instead.
• Toxic Chemicals or Hazardous Materials
• Combustible Materials: Charcoal, gasoline, propane or charcoal starter fluid is not permitted. While grills are available for use around some of the residence halls, please be aware storing of many of the typical grilling products is not allowed in the residence halls.
• Mattress: You will need to use the mattress provided in your room and are not allowed to bring a separate mattress. A mattress cover or pad is allowed and recommended.
• Homemade Furniture/Lofts: Self-built or purchased lofts are not allowed. All residence halls, except Ballard Hall, are furnished with versatile twin-XL sized loftable furniture. John Neumaier Apartments are not equipped with lofting capability. Nelson Upperclass Singles are furnished with full-size beds that are not loftable.
• University Furniture Not Assigned to You: If the furniture is from a study lounge, that's where it belongs.
• Alcohol or Other Drugs (including marijuana), Empty Boxes/Containers/Packaging, etc.
• Printers: Each hall has a printer in their lounge, along with some computers for use, so save space and leave it at home!
• Temperature Control: Window or portable air conditioners and space heaters are not permitted.
• Appliances that are NOT Allowed: The use of any appliance with open heating coils is prohibited. Appliances that are not allowed include air fryers, crock pots, Pizzazz Pizza Cookers, toasters, toaster ovens, hot plates, electric skillets and woks, indoor grills/George Foreman grills, rice cooker, deep fryer, electric sandwich makers/presses, waffle makers, bread makers, hot oil popcorn poppers, broilers, camp stoves, ice makers, coffee/drink warmers (this does not include coffee makers), convection ovens, induction cooking appliances, outdoor grills, soldering irons or any electrical appliances that are not UL approved and/or labeled. Please see above for a listing of appliances that are allowed in the halls. If there is an appliance you are interested in bringing but is not featured on either list, please contact housing@mnstate.edu for clarification.

If you are living in Dahl, Grantham, Holmquist or Snarr Complex, your room is furnished with a bed with lofting capabilities built into it. You do not need to rent a separate loft kit.

If you live in Nelson Hall, you are equipped with a full size bed (non-loftable).

Homemade or purchased lofts are not permitted.

If you live in Ballard Hall, you are able to rent a bed loft through College Loft Services. To rent a loft, please visit College Loft Services or call 218.354.2107 for more information. Homemade or purchased lofts are not permitted.

A limited number of MicroFridge (combination refrigerator, freezer, and microwave) will be available for rental on a first come first serve basis. They are $75 per semester.

All MicroFridges are booked for Fall. Please email housing@mnstate.edu if you would like to be put on the wait list.

If you reserve prior to the official Move-In Day, your MicroFridge will be in your room when you move in.
