Speech Language Hearing Sciences Learning Community

You should live in this community if you are a declared Speech Language Hearing Sciences major. This community provides Speech Language Hearing Science majors with the opportunities to connect with faculty and other students who are not directly in the learning community, interact with the greater SLP and general F-M communities, and be part of the activities of MSUM Chapter of the National Student Speech-Language and Hearing Association. These opportunities directly impact student success and prepare students for a successful career. For the 2026-2027 academic year, this community will be located in West Snarr.

Common Courses

Students in a Learning Community receive priority registration for designated common courses that are required for their major and connect them with peers in their LC. You’ll be pre-registered for these courses prior to SOAR (student orientation, advising, and registration).

Fall Courses

  • FYE 101: First Year Experience (1 credit) - (Required for all)
  • BIOL 104: Human Biology (3 credits)
  • SLHS 101: Survey of Speech-Language-Hearing Disorders (3 credits)

Learning Community students also receive seats in Spring courses, which your Mentor will assist you with during the advising and registration process.

As a member of this Learning Community, you will...

  • Explore Welcome Weekend with your LC group.
  • Live around students with similar interests, assisting you in making connections from the moment you arrive to campus.
  • Take courses with your peers, creating a seamless way to connect with others for study sessions and test prep.
  • Have your Mentor living near you for easy access to support.
  • Engage in exclusive events your Mentor hosts throughout the year such as Site Visits to local business in the Fargo-Moorhead area, large LC events connecting you with faculty, and so much more!
