ND & SD Tuition-Free Pathway Renewal Information
Scholarship Renewal Information
The Tuition-Free Pathway for North Dakota and South Dakota residents was available to eligible new first-time and transfer students who began attending Minnesota State Moorhead Fall 2024 to Fall 2026. This scholarship is no longer available to new students.
Students who previously received the Tuition-Free Pathway may continue to receive the award if they remain eligible and meet all renewal requirements.
Renewal Requirements
To remain eligible for the Tuition-Free Pathway, students must:
- Maintain North Dakota or South Dakota residency
- Continue to meet income eligibility requirements as determined through the FAFSA
- Be enrolled full time (12-18 credits) at MSUM
- Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards
- Not be in default on a state or federal student loan
- Continue working toward their first bachelor's degree
- Eligibility is reviewed each term by the Office of Scholarship & Financial Aid.
Award Information
The Tuition-Free Pathway is a last-dollar scholarship that covers remaining regular tuition after other scholarships, grants, stipends and tuition waivers have been applied. The award does not cover differential tuition or fees.
Eligible students may continue receiving the scholarship for up to 120 credits or four years, whichever comes first, provided all renewal requirements are met.

Minnesota residents may qualify for the North Star Promise Scholarship, which provides a tuition-free pathway for eligible students. Current scholarship opportunities are also available through Minnesota State Moorhead's scholarship programs.
