Veteran & Military Programs
MSU Moorhead has a strong support system of Veterans and military service members, and we encourage you to connect with others through one of the involvement opportunities available on campus and with local organizations and partners. These programs focus on serving the needs of military connected students and improving retention and outcomes.
Centers of Excellence for Veteran Student Success
Minnesota State University Moorhead has been awarded the CEVSS grant to establish the University as a Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success. This funding is utilized to implement strategies that aid Veteran and military student enrollment, increase retention, and ensure wrap around services support our military connected students through their whole academic career.
General Education Mobile (GEM)
General Education Mobile (GEM) allows enlisted members of the United States Air Force and Space Force to earn general education credits towards their associate’s degree from the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF). Airman and Guardians can complete their 15 general education credits towards their CCAF associate degree through GEM partners like MSUM.
Peer Advisors for Veteran Education (PAVE)
PAVE is a program that pairs incoming veteran and military students with trained current students who have also served. PAVE helps military-connected students find their way around the university, identifying resources both on and off campus.
ROTC
Minnesota State University Moorhead students can participate in both Army and Air Force ROTC through the Tri-College program. Army and Air Force Senior ROTC are some of the most demanding and successful leadership programs in the country. Joining Tri-College ROTC provides unique educational opportunities by combining leadership and management theory with hands-on experience. Development of self-discipline, physical stamina and poise are the keys to our success. More information on how to receive a commission through Army or Air Force ROTC. VA Work Study for students
VA’s work study program gives student-Veterans the opportunity for hands-on work experience and a monthly part-time income while they are going back to school as part of the Post-9/11 GI Bill or other VA education benefit program. Students can learn valuable employment skills that can be put on a resume about Veterans services. VA work studies conduct outreach to veterans by assisting in planning and attending outreach events. VA work Studies can also assist veterans by answering basic questions and providing information on where to find veteran related information.
Veterans Club
The Student Veterans Club offers camaraderie, resources, and support for military Veterans and service members as they pursue their education and career goals. For information on the MSUM Veterans Club, contact the Veterans Resource Center.
Yellow Ribbon Advance
Yellow Ribbon Advance is a community-wide partnership aimed at supporting veterans, service members, and their families as they pursue a bachelor's degree while actively contributing to the workforce. This innovative project combines work-based learning with competency-based curriculum, equipping adult learners with the skills needed to excel in high-demand careers. It not only harnesses the talents of our military-connected citizens to address workforce shortages in vital industries, but also fosters valuable connections between veterans, service members, and employers eager to make the most of their contributions while they work towards their educational goals.
