If you enjoy and appreciate the diversity of older persons, want to influence public policy and improve the lives of older people, or would like to work in a field that shows great potential for future growth, MSUM’s Gerontology major may be for you. Gerontology integrates several perspectives on human aging and explores the aging processes of individuals and societies, including the study of physical, mental and social changes; investigates societal changes resulting from an aging population; and applies this knowledge to policy and program development.
The program is unique to the region. It’s the only Gerontology bachelor’s degree offered in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Gain hands-on experience through ample service learning and internship opportunities under the direction of MSUM’s dedicated, experienced faculty. Fargo-Moorhead boasts a wide variety of voluntary organizations and service providers to provide you with valuable, hands-on learning.
Interdisciplinary curriculum makes it easy for you to double-major without adding significant time to your academic career. Popular second majors include Social Work, Health Services Administration, Psychology and Sociology.
Experienced, engaged faculty teach from personal practice in the field and are actively involved in research and service to community organizations.
