The unit of credit at Minnesota State University Moorhead is the semester hour. One semester credit is equivalent to 50 minutes of class time for each week of the semester term. The semester term at MSUM is normally 16 weeks long, including final examination periods.
All credit evaluation will be based upon official transcripts received from the original credit issuing institution. Transfer courses will not be calculated in the MSUM cumulative GPA. Transfer courses will be included in LASC, major, and minor GPA requirements.
Freshmen or sophomores registering for more than 18 credits during any semester (nine credits during a summer session) must fill out an excess credit form. This form must be signed by both the student’s advisor and their respective college dean. No student may register for more than 20 credits without an excess credit permit.

Minnesota State Moorhead reserves the right to determine whether previous course work provides a suitable base for advanced study. All students have the right to appeal credit transfer decisions.
