George Hagen Papers (S5034)

Biographical Sketch

Born in Crookston, Polk County, Minnesota in 1903, George Hagen attended St. Olaf College and studied law at Georgetown University before becoming a member of the Minnesota Bar. He also spent fourteen months as an FBI agent in Washington D.C. Hagen served in several public offices during his career, including Polk County Attorney, six years in the Minnesota House of Representatives, and many years as District Judge in Polk County. In politics, Hagen was part of the Farmer-Labor Party in the 1930s and early 1940s, but in the latter 1940s sought to be elected Lieutenant Governor on the Republican Party ticket. Hagen died in the late 1970s.

Collection Description

These papers consist of Hagen's political and personal correspondence, and numerous files from George Hagen's law practice. In addition, there are political files on the Polk County issues, the Farmer-Labor Party, sessions and legislative activities of the Minnesota House of Representatives, and documents from Hagen's campaigns for office. All materials are in excellent condition.
