The new MSUM e-mail policy applies to grad students too!
Taken from the MSUM webpage:
All official University business will be conducted via mnstate.edu email accounts. Email communication to students will be sent to the mnstate.edu email address exclusively.
Online coursework is facilitated when professors can quickly and accurately establish communication with enrolled students using 'official' personal inboxes on the mnstate.edu system. Important information, such as financial aid award letters, will be sent exclusively to mnstate.edu accounts starting this spring. As the year progresses, other important information regarding student status will be sent only to this account.
Therefore, it is essential that students access, read and use their mnstate.edu accounts.
Directions to sign up for a new mnstate.edu account are on the MSUM homepage. Simply click on 'email'. Please take personal responsibility to ensure you are informed.

The MSUM Graduate Council is seeking nominations and applications for next year's Graduate Student Lecturers for the Deans' Lecture Series. The lecture presentation should reflect a significant accomplishment during the student's graduate experience at MSUM. It must also be germane to the field of study.
The lecturers are chosen by the Graduate Council based on the significance of the graduate research and potential contribution to the student's field of study.
Application and/or nomination criteria is available from the Graduate Studies Office. The submission deadline is April 11, 2008.

North Dakota Counseling Association Annual Conference
I had the opportunity to attend the North Dakota Counseling Association annual conference in Bismarck, North Dakota February 10-12. During the three day conference, there were a total of 48 different sessions and 334 registered members who attended. On the final day, there was an award ceremony to recognize outstanding counselors and the scholarship recipients. I was honored to be granted a $775 scholarship to use towards my masters degree in Counseling and Student Affairs here at MSUM. Other CNSA graduate students in attendance were Melissa Anderson, Dorothy White, Kari Schatzke, and Karen Carr.
Dr. Duane Halbur did a presentation along with student Karen Carr regarding the youth "Emo" culture.
Although most of the conference was geared towards School Counseling it was an important opportunity to learn from a variety of topics, including adult mental health, personal wellness, and youth development. It also provided a chance to meet other professionals in the field and gather resources.
