Kandace Creel Falcón, Ph.D. earned her doctorate degree in Feminist Studies from the University of Minnesota. Her work focuses on blurring the boundaries between creative and academic with specific attention on the power of storytelling for women of color, particularly Chicanas. Her dissertation entitled, “This is our home!” Chicana Oral Histories: (Story)Telling Life Love and Identity in the Midwest” engages family histories, autohistorias, testimonios, creative writing, and oral histories to situate a Chicana feminist analysis of Midwestern Mexican American women’s lives within the diaspora of Chicanidad. She is also invested in new media practices, specifically through making, writing about and presenting on digital storytelling, and blogging. Additionally, Dr. Creel Falcón serves as the MN Congressional District 7 appointee to the Chicano Latino Affairs Council where she shapes educational and legislative strategies through committee work, and she serves on the Blandin Foundation Board of Trustees. She is Assistant Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
