  • New students who have not used their GI Bill benefits before will need to follow these steps:

    STEP 1:

    1. If you are applying for benefits based on your service, complete VA form 22-1990.
    2. If you are applying for benefits based on a parent’s or spouse’s service, complete VA form 22-5490.

    You can find these forms or apply online at vets.gov under the “Apply for Education Benefits” tab.

    STEP 2:

    1. If you are applying for benefits based on your active duty service, you must submit a copy of your DD form 214.
    2. If you are applying for benefits based on your service in the Guard or Reserve, you must submit a copy of your Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE).
        

    STEP 3:

    1. You must then complete the Enrollment Verification.
        

    Students transferring to MSUM from another institution must complete a VA form 22-1995 (if the benefit is based on your own service) or 22-5495 (if the benefit is based on your parent’s or spouse’s service).

    You must then complete the Enrollment Verification.

    Continuing or returning students must complete the Enrollment Verification.
