Welcome to the Dragon Family: Ryan Clancy

Meet Ryan Clancy, MSUM’s new Assistant Professor of Film, School of Media Arts and Design.

Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: I grew up in the Midwest and when I realized that I could fulfill my creative desires here I made the determination that I wanted to stay in this region. When the position opened, I knew some faculty here, liked their work, and saw it fit with my own, which I liked. Also, one of the biggest reasons I came here is because MSUM has an established 16-millimeter curriculum.

Q: What is one thing that surprised you about MSUM?
A: I knew it was a small school and I had a feeling that I might come here and my teaching style might not work here. I thought I was going to have to be very structured and force a hierarchy but it hasn’t been that way at all.

Q: If you could have one superpower what would it be and why?
A: I would want to be able to experience the world through another’s perspective. I would still have my own thoughts and experiences but also be able to try to understand it through someone else’s.

Q: Where is your favorite place to eat in Fargo-Moorhead?
A: Prairie Kitchen. It’s a fine dining experience, very contemporary and they have artistic displays of food yet it’s not that expensive.

Q: What is your favorite binge-worthy show to watch?
A: I really love The Great British Baking Show.
