Welcome to the Dragon Family: Griffin Osing
Meet MSUM’s new assistant wrestling coach, Griffin Osing.
Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: I wrestled and coached at another school within the same conference. I knew Coach Nelson well. He’s a great guy and coach so I knew he would be somebody I could learn from. I was excited about the opportunity to work with such a great coach and to also be able to help the wrestling program produce good outcomes for our athletics department.
Q: What is your favorite part about MSUM so far?
A: The people here are my favorite part. I’ve enjoyed all of the interactions I’ve had with other coaches so far. All the people around me have offered me the resources I need in order to be successful.
Q: What energizes you at work?
A: The process of improvement. Nobody is a finished product and we all have areas to improve upon, myself included. Trying to learn as much as I can so I can pass that knowledge on to my student athletes is what really drives me. It’s very motivating to help others achieve their dreams.
Q: What is the most interesting thing you are working on right now.
A: Recruiting on the West Coast. At my previous school I mainly stuck to the Midwest. I very rarely made my way further west, so it’s been interesting to get perspectives from people from different places. It’s fun to see the different terms they use out there.
Q: What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
A: Probably hanging out at home watching movies, football, or wrestling on TV. I really enjoy movies. My favorite movies are Dances with Wolves and Braveheart.
