Special Education

  • Minnesota State University Moorhead offers multiple degree options for becoming a special education teacher. On campus students have the opportunity to pursue an Academic and Behavioral Strategist licensure in addition to an Elementary Inclusive Education degree, or a degree in any Secondary & K-12 Teacher Education program. For students in the Twin Cities area, a Bachelor of Science in Special Education is offered as a 2+2 program, leading to a Minnesota teaching license in Learning Disabilities, Emotional Behavior Disorders or Developmental Disabilities.

  • Benefits of an MSUM Special Education Degree
    Nationwide there is a severe shortage of special education teachers. Teacher candidates completing Special Education license requirements have numerous employment opportunities around the region.
    Several courses needed to complete Special Education licensure requirements are offered online and during summer sessions, making it possible to complete requirements in a timely manner.
    MSUM’s School of Teaching and Learning is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). In addition, the Minnesota Board of Teaching approves all teacher education licensure programs at MSUM.
    You’ll spend more than 200 hours observing and teaching in K-12 classrooms during your practicum experiences, allowing you to learn firsthand what a career in special education involves.
