MSUM Scholarship Search

  • Minnesota State University Moorhead offers a variety of scholarships for incoming and current students. Scholarships are listed below. Students can apply for university scholarships through the online scholarship application, which opens October 1. Students will fill out and submit only one application to be considered for all scholarships. Some scholarships may require an essay or other materials, so review the requirements carefully in order to be considered.

  • 50th Class Scholarship
    Description:

    Available to students pursuing their first MSUM undergraduate degree.  Applicants must be full time students (12 or more MSUM credits) each semester at MSUM. No GPA requirement - only that the student is in good standing according to University policies.

    Academic Excellence Freshman Award
    Description:

    The Academic Excellence Award is awarded to students who attain the National Merit Finalist level.  The award is $20,000 over four years, or until you graduate, whichever comes first.   ($5,000 freshman year; renewable for $5,000).  Renewal requires MSUM cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher at the end of each spring semester. This scholarship replaces any previously awarded MSUM academic scholarships.

    Access, Opportunity and Success Diversity Scholarship
    Description:

    New freshman and new transfer students admitted to MSUM from an underrepresented or undeserved population may apply to receive the scholarship in the first semester if one of the following conditions is met:  student is a person of color; or from a culturally diverse background; or for whom English is not their first language.  Scholarship is continued for spring semester upon successful completion of fall semester.  Financial need is considered in the selection process - results from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be received at MSUM prior to the application deadline.  Recipients collaborate with a student success mentor to tailor an experience that compliments the student's abilities and enriches the MSUM community.

    The academic scholarship is $4,000 ($2,000 per semester) and may be renewed (pending funding).  If awarded, the scholarship replaces any previously awarded academic scholarships.

    Accounting Club Scholarship
    Description:

    This scholarship is available to students involved in MSUM’s Accounting Club.

    Officially declared an Accounting major and have completed prior to the Spring semester a total of at least 60 credit hours with a minimum of 12 credit hours completed at MSUM with an overall MSUM GPA must be at least 3.25.

    Have completed ACCT 330 and one additional required accounting course at the 300 level or above at MSUM with a minimum GPA in these courses of 3.0.

    Must enroll for at least 6 credit hours of MSUM undergraduate or graduate courses in the following academic year.

    Description:

    The Ada Fick Scholarship Endowment is an upper class scholarship that is designated for Elementary Education majors who are older than average, junior or senior status with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

    Allan J. Hanna English Scholarship
    Description:

    Dr. Allan J. Hanna, Associate Professor Emeritus, died June 14, 2006, from heart failure.  Professor Hanna was Associate Profess of English at MSUM from 1960 to 1993.

    Description:

    MSUM offers Pre-Health scholarship to eligible students who have aspirations to proceed into medical school. 

    The recipient will be properly enrolled as a fulltime student at MSU Moorhead during the actual disbursement of the award and have a declared major in the College of Science, Health, and the Environment with a GPA of at least 3.5 upon receiving this scholarship.

    The student will have a demonstrated need for this award.

    Description:

    The Anna Wilson Gunderson Scholarship is for juniors or seniors majoring in Education, specifically Elementary Education, with the intent to teach are eligible for this scholarship.     Antoinette Eliason Nursing Scholarship
    Description:

    The Antoinette Eliason Memorial Scholarship is made available through MSUM past President and Mrs. Barden, in memory of Mrs. Barden’s mother.

    This scholarship is for students who are seeking a degree in Nursing and demonstarte financial need (based on FAFSA process).

    Art Nix Music Scholarship
    Description:

    MSUM offers a variety of music scholarships for vocalists and instrumentalists alike. Music majors and non-music majors are equally considered for scholarship awards in order to perform in MSUM ensembles such as the Wind Ensemble, Concert Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Guitar Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble, as well as in the Music Industry area. Area-specific scholarships for music education, music industry, piano, composition and academics are also available for current students and upperclassmen.

    Arty Heald Nursing Scholarship
    Description:

    Arthur (Arty) John Pedro Heald was the son of nursing professor Donna Heald Clark, who died at age 30 of a rare form of kidney cancer. Throughout his 20 month battle with the disease, Arty exemplified the heroism of those who are diagnosed with a serious illness. He never lost courage or spirit. This need based scholarship provides financial support for baccalaureate nursing students as they further their knowledge to provide the most competent and compassionate care for heroes like Arty. Full-time students who demonstrate financial need and are majoring in Nursing are eligible for this award.

    Description:

    Awarded to a student who is majoring in mathematics with preference given to students who have a G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher in their mathematics coursework and to students who plan to attend graduate school in mathematics or who plan to pursue a career in actuarial science. Requirements: Recipients must be a full time student during the previous academic year.

    Note: The Math Department Scholarship Committee will select the recipient(s) of this scholarship – no application is required to be considered for this scholarship.

    Business Administration Scholarship
    Description:

    MSUM offers a variety of Business scholarships.

    Applicants are eligible to receive scholarship awards through this process no more than two times while enrolled at MSUM. Awards will not be given to students with more than one prior award.

    Finance and Accounting double majors will be evaluated for scholarship eligibility in both majors once the review process has begun. However, there is no need to apply in both areas.

    Description:

    The Carol and Hugo Moeckel Endowed Scholarship is for students at the Junior or Senior class level who demonstrate strong abilities in their chosen area of emphasis in the School of Visual Arts. Current Sophomore, Junior and Senior applicants must submit 10 images in digital format or submit an Art History paper.

    Description:

    The Carol Gaede Scholarship Award was established to honor Dr. Carol Gaede for her long-standing commitment to excellence and learning in the disciplines of Communication Studies, Film Studies, and Theatre Arts. The scholarship is a financial award that honors academic, artistic/creative, and/or service achievement in a student who is a declared major in communication studies, film or theatre arts.

    Requirements: Less than 64 credits, 3.0 GPA, creativity and service to community.

    Description:

    The Colleen Moore Scholarship is awarded to an outstanding female Film Studies student to assist in the creation of film/video work or to assist with costs of attending a conference.  Scholarship amounts vary based on need.  Eligible students must be a full-time Speech Communications major in the area of Film and Telecommunication Arts.

    Communication Studies Scholarship
    Description:

    MSUM offers a variety of Communication scholarships for incoming freshman students majoring in Communication Studies.

    The Communication Studies Scholarship recognizes new students who have declared, or will declare, a major in communication studies.

    Eligibility:

    1. High school seniors OR incoming transfer students who will be majoring in communication studies at MSUM;
    2. Current MSUM students who have recently declared the major;
    3. Recent transfer students who have declared a major in communication studies;
    4. This award is available to students who have not yet completed two semesters as a communication studies major.

    Connie Oxton English Education Memorial Scholarship
    Description:

    Eligible candidates must be majoring in English and maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher in English. Applicants must also have sophomore standing or higher at the time of application.  The Connie Oxton English Education Memorial scholarship is designated for students pursuing a degree in Secondary English Education. Preference is given to students who demonstrate financial need.

    Distinguished Dragon Scholarship (Automatic)
    Description:

    The Distinguished Dragon Scholarship is an automatic scholarship that is awarded to new freshmen students who are U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens who are admitted to the University and meet certain academic qualifications.  Automatic scholarships are awarded on a first-applied, first-awarded basis until funds are fully committed. 

    For entering fall 2019 students with a minimum composite ACT score of 28* (or SAT 1310*) and a 3.75 GPA may receive $8,000 over four years, or until you graduate, whichever comes first ($2,000 their freshman year; renewable for $2,000).  Renewal requires MSUM cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher at the end of each spring semester.

     

    *ACT/SAT score and GPA is at the time of admission.     Description:

    The Ignite Scholarship is an automatic scholarship that is awarded to new freshmen students who are U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens who are admitted to the University and meet academic qualifications.  Automatic scholarships are awarded on a first-applied, first-awarded basis until funds are fully committed. 

    For entering fall 2019 students with a minimum composite ACT score 21* (SAT 1060*) and a  3.0 GPA may receive a freshman year scholarship of $500 (non-renewable).

    Joshua Hanson Sociology and Criminal Justice
    Description:

    Joshua Hanson completed his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and law enforcement skills training at Alexandria Technical College in 2005.  He planned to be a law enforcement officer when his tour in Iraq was completed and hoped to work as a deputy for the Otter Tail Sheriff's Department.  Joshua Hanson died on August 30, 2006 while serving with the Minnesota National Guard in Iraq.  He was completing his second tour of duty and was assigned to Company A, 2nd Combined Arms Battalion, 136th Infantry stationed in southern Iraq.

    Description:

    The purpose of the Marcil Scholarship is to recruit and retain students to MSU Moorhead who are interested in a career in the journalism/media industry.     Description:

    Marjorie Sanders, who taught at Moorhead State University taught in Africa for 30 years before joining the Moorhead State faculty. Sanders was raised in England and trained as a child psychologist athe world famous Adler and Jung clinics in Vienna and Switzerland.  She moved to Africa as principal of a college that trained early childhood education teachers in Johannesburg, South Africa.

    The Marjorie Sanders Scholarship is available to undergraduate students seeking their first undergraduate degree, who are from Africa and will be returning to Africa after they complete their degree. Available to students who are either entering freshman or transfer students. Eligibility is determined by grades and information received from the required documents. Scholarship is for $2,000 per year, renewable for four years based on GPA at the end of each spring semester. This replaces any academic scholarship previously awarded.

    Moorhead Achieve Scholarship (Automatic)
    Description:

    The Moorhead Achieve Scholarship is an automatic scholarship that is awarded to new freshmen students who are U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens who are admitted to the University and meet certain academic qualifications.  Automatic scholarships are awarded on a first-applied, first-awarded basis until funds are fully committed. 

    For entering Fall 2019 students with a composite minimum ACT score of 26* (or SAT 1240*) and a 3.5 GPA may receive $6,000 over four years, or until you graduate, whichever comes first ($1,500 their freshman year; renewable for $1,500).  Renewal requires MSUM cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher at the end of each spring semester.

    University Scholarship (Automatic)
    Description:

    The Univeristy Scholarship is an automatic scholarship that is awarded to new freshmen students who are U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens who are admitted to the University and meet certain academic qualifications.  Automatic scholarships are awarded on a first-applied, first-awarded basis until funds are fully committed. 

    For entering fall 2019 students with a minimum composite ACT score of 21* (SAT 1160*) and a 3.5 GPA may receive $4,000 over four years, or until you graduate, whichever comes first ($1,000 their freshman year; renewable for $1,000).  Renewal requires MSUM cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher at the end of each spring semester.

     

    *ACT/SAT score, cumulative GPA and high school class rank are based on the official numbers reported by the high school at the time of admission.  SAT score is sum of critical reading and math scores.  Students who meet the qualifications and apply for admission while funds are available will be notified by letter of the scholarship awarded.  Contact the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid to request scholarship appeal information.
