Dear Students,

As you may have noticed, the forecast for the second Red River crest has been revised downward. We continue daily meetings this week with the city’s Emergency Operations Center and are prepared in the event that the forecast worsens.

Today, I am optimistic that we will be able to continue normal operations. Even with the rain predicted for later in the week, the river forecast is still hopeful. Yes, it will still rise and crest. However, forecasts suggest that the flood will be significantly less than the March 28 crest. The city has added contingency dikes and, where necessary, reinforced the dike system. As you recall, the University is situated well above the river level predictions. Thus, I am optimistic that we will not need to close our facilities for the second crest. If the situation changes, we will let you know in a timely fashion.

I understand that the events of the last few weeks have left some students with challenges and questions. To assist you in finding answers to your questions more quickly, please consider the following points:

  • Issues related to course work, finals, grading (including incompletes), or instructors will be best addressed by your advisor, faculty, department chairs, or college deans and should be directed to them first.

  • Issues with housing or meal plans should be directed to the Housing and Residential Life Office located in Ballard Hall.

  • Questions about graduation should be directed to the Records Office in Owens Hall.

  • Questions about financial aid, scholarship status, and work study should be directed to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship in Owens Hall.

  • Payment of outstanding bills should be directed to the Business Office in Owens Hall.

  • Non-academic appeals and other miscellaneous questions can be brought to the Student Affairs Office also located in Owens Hall.

Please know how very much I appreciate all that you have done to support our University and community. You are awesome.

Best wishes,

President Edna
