The Student Leadership Challenge: Five Exemplary Leaders
By: James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner

Mirroring the Leadership Challenge, but in a shorter, more interactive student friendly way this book taps into the five main components of remarkable leaders.

    1. Model the Way. A reminder that actions often do speak louder than words.
    2. Inspire a Shared Vision. Ever have the feeling your organization has great energy, ideas, but seems to be running in completely different directions? Inspiring a shared vision might be what you need to get back on track.
    3. Challenge the Process. Just because something has been done that way for a long time doesn't mean it needs to continue being done that way. If we society stopped challenging the process we wouldn't have super neat things like electricity and ipads.
    4. Enable Other to Act. At some point you'll probably move on from your current leadership role, and you may want to have that role continue. To ensure sustainability, especially in student organizations understanding this step of enabling others to act is critical.
    5. Encourage the Heart. When we have a million things to do it an be easy to backburner letting a friend, fellow leader, or mentor know what a great job they do. However, it shouldn't be. Encouraging the heart is the last, but not least, exemplary practice of great leaders.
