  • Benefits of an MSUM Musical Theatre Degree
MSUM’s Musical Theatre program offers regionally unique programs, including theatre dance, acting and the ability to work with our professional summer stock program, the Straw Hat Players. You’ll have numerous opportunities to get a taste of what happens on stage and off. If you choose to attend MSUM you will be pushed and challenged to explore your art in ways you have never expected.
The MSUM University Theatre Series includes several mainstage productions, two annual dance concerts and many student-directed and/or created pieces each year. The mainstage productions involve students from across campus who participate as performers and technicians.
The Roland Dille Center for the Arts is home to Delmar J. Hansen Theatre and Gaede Stage. The largest public-gathering space on the MSUM campus, Hansen Theatre is proscenium-style, seating approximately 850. It’s used for events like the Cheryl Nelson-Lossett Performing Arts Series, University Theatre Series, MSUM Children’s Theatre and Straw Hat Players, among others. Gaede Stage is a thrust-style theatre that seats around 330, and is used primarily by the School of Performing Arts for its University Theatre Series and Straw Hat Players.
MSUM School of Performing Arts faculty possess impressive artistic credentials, with an emphasis on active professional performance and a strong commitment to teaching. They regularly perform on stages and design productions in the Fargo-Moorhead community and nationwide, including for Fargo-Moorhead Musical Theatre, The Stage, Theatre B, FM Ballet and Fargo-Moorhead Opera. Faculty bring practical knowledge of the theatrical world and provide students with mentoring, performance and networking opportunities, professional connections, and the chance to attend national and regional productions, conferences and festivals.
    Learning Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

At MSUM, we believe learning experiences outside the classroom are just as important as what you learn inside of it. Coupling classroom lessons with external learning opportunities gives you the experience necessary to succeed after graduation.
