Biographical Sketch

David J. Beauchamp was born September 6, 1940 in Langdon, North Dakota. He graduated from the St. Francis Elementary and secondary school in Langdon and then attended St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from there in 1962. From 1962 to 1964, David Beauchamp worked with the Peace Corps in Thailand. When he returned to the United States, Beauchamp earned a Master’s Degree in counseling and guidance at the University of North Dakota. Beauchamp joined Moorhead State College as a faculty member and coordinator of grants in 1969. He married Artini in 1967. On June 21, 1974 he announced his candidacy for the State Legislature from District 9A and was elected that fall. Beauchamp served two terms in the Legislature before being narrowly defeated in a bid for the third term. 

Collection Description

The David Beauchamp Papers consist of material he accumulated while a State Legislature. The collection is arranged topically, with most of the material sorted according to the legislation or issue to which it pertains. This material includes information supplied by lobbyists, the legislature’s research, other legislators, constituents, and newspaper articles. Letters to and from constituents dealing with pending legislation are included in the correspondence files and organized by date. Also included are summaries of the legislation sessions printed by the State Government.
