The MSUM History, Languages, Critical Race and Women’s Studies Department provides several majors course offerings, creating an inherently interdisciplinary program of study. The East Asian Studies major draws courses from Chinese, Japanese, history and humanities that will allow you to understand the culture and languages found in Asia, an area of historical and current importance in business and trade. Women’s and Gender Studies likewise draws from multiple programs across the campus, including courses from science, history, and literature. Awareness of the perspectives of various cultural groups in the U.S. infuses the offerings in American multicultural studies, and minors that focus on one or another of these groups are available for those who hope to work in certain locations where such a group is prevalent. Adding a minor or major in Women’s and Gender Studies or American Multicultural Studies will provide essential understandings of one’s co-workers, employees, and neighbors that can directly impact one’s likelihood of success in later years.
