MSU Moorhead offers two graduate study options, giving you the flexibility to fit a Master of Arts or graduate certificate into your schedule and to customize your course of study to fit your needs. Classes are offered in the late afternoons, evenings and summer. The knowledge, skills, and experience you gain will build your confidence and competence as a teacher.
The 36-credit Master of Arts in TESL will help you to meet the standards for teachers of ESL set by Minnesota Board of Teaching, North Dakota Educational Standards and Practices Board, TESOL, and NCATE. You will be prepared to teach English language learners in grades K-12 in both Minnesota and North Dakota, as well as in community colleges and universities.
Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language Requirements
The graduate certificate will provide training in the knowledge and skills necessary to teach English as a second or foreign language. It is applicable to licensure in teaching ESL in Minnesota if you have also completed a teacher preparation program. Completion of the certificate requires 20 credits, which includes two credits of an internship in TESL. Licensure may require additional credits depending on your background and state in which licensure is sought.
