Communication Arts & Literature Education Scholarships

  • The English Department offers several scholarship awards for academic excellence. Eligible candidates must be majoring in English and maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher in English. Applicants must also have sophomore standing or higher at the time of application. Students can apply for university scholarships through the online scholarship application.

    1. Two English Department faculty recommendations, using this recommendation form (printed, signed, and dated by faculty member).
    2. Sample(s) of your best writing, totaling no fewer than 5 pages and no more than 7 pages, from 200 or higher level English course(s) at MSUM
    3. Current transcript
    4. Essay: In a well-developed essay of 500 words, typed, double-spaced, and using MLA format, please respond to the following prompt:

      We are bombarded on a daily basis by news and information in a variety of media. In what ways does your experience as an English major help you to critically and ethically navigate such information?

    Application Deadline: February 1.
