MSUM offers a variety of Physics & Astronomy scholarships for current and incoming students. Scholarships are listed below. You can also apply for general university scholarships through the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid.
Award Amount: $1000, typically awarded end of the Fall semester.
Description: The Worman Scholarship recognizes and supports outstanding work in astronomy. That work could be work on astronomical instrumentation, software, a research project or other activity related to astronomy. It is named for a retired MSUM faculty member, Dr. Walter Worman.
Eligibility Requirements: MSUM physics majors with Emphasis in Astronomy who will be enrolled in the Physics program the following Spring semester. Applicants must have completed a minimum of one astronomy course and have a Physics major GPA of 3.0 or above.
Award Amount: up to $1000, typically awarded end of the Fall semester.
Description: Physics Department Scholarship recognizes outstanding work in physics or a closely related area, such as engineering or sustainability, if that work substantially involves physics. The work could be on instrumentation in the department or elsewhere on campus, a research project, software or other activity related to physics.
Eligibility Requirements: The Physics Department Scholarship is open to any physics major who will be enrolled the following spring semester.
Award Amount: $1500, typically awarded end of the Fall semester.
Description: This award will be given for the Spring semester for a high-quality senior project conducted the prior Fall. It is expected that the student recipient will present their research during a Spring conference (such as the MSUM Student Academic Conference or other professional organization). The awardee will also be expected to continue the research in the Spring.
Eligibility Requirements: MSUM physics majors working on their Senior Project during the fall semester who will be enrolled the following spring semester. Application evaluated based on final project report for the Senior Project and the short proposal (less than 1 page) describing what student would do further if extra time beyond that available during the fall semester.The department will select a winner based on the strength of his/her proposal and their senior project paper.

Description: This scholarship is designed to encourage excellence in physics. It is named for two retired Physics faculty at MSUM, Dr. Gerald Hart and Dr. Roger Sipson.
Eligibility Requirements: MSUM physics majors or minors who will be enrolled in the physics program the following fall semester with a Physics major GPA of 3.0 or above.
The department will select a winner based on the strength of his or her physics coursework and on strengths in one or more of the following areas:
