As an institution, MSUM is committed to contributing to Moorhead and the surrounding communities in meaningful ways. Community engagement is a key part of our strategic anchor to be indispensable to the communities we serve. As we continue to make progress in the areas of community engagement and engaged scholarship, MSUM is seeking a Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement.
Carnegie Classifications comprise a leading framework for describing institutional diversity in U.S. higher education. The Community Engagement Classification is an elective classification that recognizes higher education’s commitment to community engagement.
A rigorous application process reviews submitted information from the university about the community engagement and engaged scholarship practices. Carnegie defines Community Engagement as the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity. An awarded classification reaffirms institutional commitment to deepen the practice of service and to further strengthen bonds between campus and community.
The collaboration between MSU Moorhead and our larger local, regional, state, national and global communities not only helps to transform the lives of our students, it also helps to transform the world in which we live. Community engagement:
