Economics Scholarships

  • MSUM offers a variety of Economics scholarships for current and incoming students. Students can apply for general university scholarships through the Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid.

    Eugene Philipps Endowed Scholarship
    Eugene A. Phillips (1933-2014) was a Professor of Economics at MSUM from 1966-1991. Committed to student success, Gene left money in his will for this endowed scholarship fund thereby continuing his support for students in perpetuity.


    1. Applicant must be a declared major in Economics.
    2. Applicant must have completed at least six credits in Economics by the end of the 2017 Spring semester with a minimum GPA of 3.25 in Economics classes.
    3. Applicant must have completed 54 total credits with a minimum overall GPA of 3.25.
    4. Applicant must be enrolled for 2017 Fall semester.

    Application process:
    Applicant must submit the application form along with a formal essay of no more than 400 words outlining their academic and career goals. Essays will be evaluated on content, clarity, grammar and style.

    Award criteria:
    One or more scholarships will be awarded based upon meeting the eligibility requirements, essay response and availability of funds. Scholarships will be in payment toward tuition and fees and must be used during the following academic year. The scholarship awards are determined by the Economics Department faculty and are based on GPA, essay and academic potential.

    Completed applications must be delivered to the Department of Economics, Law and Politics, MacLean 380 no later than 12:00 noon Friday, March 2, 2018.
