Communication Studies Scholarships

  • MSUM offers a variety of Communication & Journalism scholarships for current and incoming students. Scholarships are listed below. Students can also apply for general university scholarships through the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office

    Scholarship information will be sent to students through email and/or posted in the School of Communications & Journalism Department.

  • This award honors Dr. Gaede for her long-standing commitment to excellence and learning in the disciplines of speech communication and theatre arts. The scholarship honors academics, artistic/creative, and/or service achievement in a student who is a declared major in the Communication Studies Department. Scholarships range from $500 to $1,000.

    Eligibility:

    1. Be declared majors in the Communication Studies Department;
    2. Have a cumulate GPA of 3.0 or higher, and GPA of 3.25 or higher in major and liberal arts;
    3. Have made outstanding contributions on a regular basis in one or more of the following areas: academics, artistic/creative, and/or service achievement.

    The Communication Studies Scholarship recognizes new students who have declared, or will declare, a major in communication studies.

    Eligibility:

    1. High school seniors OR incoming transfer students who will be majoring in communication studies at MSUM;
    2. Current MSUM students who have recently declared the major;
    3. Recent transfer students who have declared a major in communication studies;
    4. This award is available to students who have not yet completed two semesters as a communication studies major.

    Communication Studies Scholarship Application

    These scholarships are made possible by donations to the Delmar J. Hansen endowment fund. The scholarship recognizes outstanding academic achievement and contributions to the department and community through leadership and active participation in events and organizations. Scholarships range from $500 to $1,000.

    Eligibility:

    1. Be declared majors in the Communication Studies Department;
    2. Have a cumulate GPA of 3.0 or higher, and GPA of 3.25 or higher in major and liberal arts;
    3. Have made outstanding contributions on a regular basis to department-sponsored programs and activities;
    4. Have participated in other university and/or community activities.

    The purpose of the Marcil Scholarship is to recruit and retain students to MSU Moorhead who are interested in a career in the journalism/media industry. Up to 20 students will receive a $1,000 scholarship each year. The scholarship will be awarded in equal amounts in the fall and spring semesters by the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

    Qualifications

    • Students must be majors in the School of Communication and Journalism, Paseka School of Business, or Department of Computer Science and Information Systems who are interested in a career in the media industry.
    • New Entering First-Year students and transfer students are eligible to apply.
    • The scholarship is renewable for up to four years. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to renew the scholarshipand continue to be a major in one of the departments listed above.
