MSUM is sponsoring a Common Read (think of it as a community-wide book club) featuring the 2010 New York Times best-seller, The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates. Two boys with the same name, Wes Moore, were born in Baltimore. They shared similar histories, circumstances and experiences. One is in prison for life. The other will share his story at MSUM Tuesday, October 8 at 7 p.m. in Hansen Theatre. The talk is open to the public, but please secure your spot by registering for this free event.
Wes Moore writes: “The chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The tragedy is that my story could have been his.”
Moore will talk about how educational opportunities, strong parental influence, engaged mentors, and a community support network helped him transcend the fate of a man with the same name whose life took a tragically different path. Executive Producer Oprah Winfrey is turning his book into a much-anticipated major motion picture of the same name.
A guide with resources related to The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates can be found on the Common Read LibGuide.
