    Dave Filipi

    Director, Film/Video, Wexner Center for the Arts, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH
    David Filipi has been with the Wexner Center's media arts department since 1994. He has organized retrospectives of and visits by such filmmakers as Richard Linklater, Milos Forman, Peter Bogdanovich, Pedro Costa, Philip Kaufman, Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, Claire Denis, Olivier Assayas, Ellen Kuras, D.A. Pennebaker, Arnaud Desplechin, Gus Van Sant, Guy Maddin, Babak Payami, Frederick Wiseman, and dozens of other established and emerging filmmakers. He has organized series around themes such as the food industry, exploitation films, sex in Hollywood film, the British New Wave, rare Oscar-winning documentaries, color filmmaking in the silent era, and rock music documentaries. His ongoing project Rare Films from the Baseball Hall of Fame has been presented annually at the Wexner Center and at multiple national venues since 2004. In the summer of 2008 Filipi co-curated Jeff Smith: Bone and Beyond—the first exhibition devoted to the famed comic book artist—which was met with national acclaim and received coverage by such outlets as PBS’s NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. Currently, he is overseeing an artist residency project with Maus-creator Art Spiegelman. A member of the film studies committee at Ohio State, where he has taught animation history since 2004, Filipi is also a member of Ohio State’s Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum advisory board and the Ohio State Film Studies Committee. Filipi also regularly serves on panels for regional and national arts organizations. Prior to joining the Wex, Filipi was with the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. He received his Master’s degree in Film Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

    The majority of my days are spent working on new projects for the college. We have some fairly groundbreaking - from a university standpoint - apps being released for the faculty that we have been spending quite a bit of time on. We work with the coding language PHP. The team I work on consists of three other Web Developers and one 3D Real Time Application Developer.

    I am a part of the visual content team working on the 3d city models for both automotive and pedestrian n navigation. Most of my day is spent modeling the cities with our navigational data. I am also in charge of the validation of our models to meet our customer specifications. I also fix our landmark models when needed, and every now and then help test newer versions of our software. Since graduating from MSUM, I have also graduated from Animation Mentor with a diploma in advanced character animation, and I am currently trying to get into a good studio.

    I develop 3d interactive content for K-12 and post-secondary students. I'm responsible for planning projects, 3d modeling, user-interface design, and programming. I also teach 3d Modeling at MSUM in the Spring and do freelance animation and visual effects for a local advertising firm.
