    The Bachelor of Science in University Studies is intended as an option for the following students:

    1. A student who wishes to develop a multidisciplinary major built around a chosen theme, or
    2. A student who wishes to complete a generalist degree, or
    3. A student who has completed most, but not all of the requirements of a major, but has been unsuccessful in some required portion of an approved program to complete a degree in a timely manner.

    The major must include the following: 36 credits of a partial major program or rubric (no more than 30 credits from the areas of Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing may be included in the partial major program or rubric), 21 additional credits from a single different rubric or area of concentration, and a 2.0 GPA in both segments. This major may be declared as late as the semester prior to graduation, but not before the student has attained junior standing.

  • B.S. Degree in University Studies Requirements

    42 credits - MSUM Dragon Core/ LASC

    36 credits - A partial major program or rubric (No more than 30 credits from the areas of Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing may be included in the partial major program or rubric.)

    21 credits - Additional single rubric course work or an area of concentration

    21 credits - Free electives

    120 credits - Total

    • Students must meet MSUM graduation requirements including an upper-level writing requirement. The upper-level writing requirement will be (1) upper-level writing requirement of the partial major program or rubric or (2) English 387 - Technical Report Writing or (3) COMM 301 - Business and Professional Communication.
    • 40 credits of the degree program must be at the 300-400 levels.
    • The partial major/rubric and the additional single rubric/concentration together, must include courses with at least a 2.0 GPA.
    • 30 of the last 60 credits and 8 of the last 12 credits must be earned at MSUM.
    • Major may be declared as late as the semester prior to graduation, but not before attaining junior standing.
    • Visit the Academic Support Center to discuss your University Studies degree plan with an advisor.
    • Partial Major and areas of concentration are proposed by the advisor and student and must be approved as part of the degree program.
    • If business is the “partial major program or rubric,” it may include up to a maximum of 30 credits in business.
    • Student must submit an application for graduation in order to have their graduation processed.


    Once your plan is complete, make an appointment to discuss the next steps with your University Studies Degree advisor in the Academic Support Center. The Registrar’s Office will check, as they do for all degrees, to see that all requirements are completed. Approval for your plan is required.
